Entertainment Center
I'm lookin' for some ideas on an EC design?
She wants the TV to be behind some bi-fold doors, no problem. The extra space on both sides of the TV on the other hand has me a little stumped on how to incorporate it into the design. I'll build two towers on both sides of the profile to stretch all the way to the ceiling with a hinged door base & shelves the rest of the way up. Maybe a curved valance at the top with some interior lighting. I'll have roughly 24" +/- on either side of the TV to fill with shelves. This is where I'm a little stumped. If I do a curved valance at the tops, that'll mean I'll have to have 5 of em', I think that may be too much? Oh yeah, the firebox is 18" + below where the bottom of the TV shelf will be so that passes code round here, before y'all ask. I also am thinkin' bout cuttin' a 1" slot in the rear of the shelves so heat from the TV & cable boxes can escape, kinda like a chimney. I appreciate your thoughts. |

Re: Entertainment Center
You are going to be disappointed with the size of the screen...you are going to have to sit 8 feet from it to get the correct picture.

I also agree that the screen is to small - they have guides out there for height & width to help the HO get the most bang for the buck without straining their eyes or neck |

Re: Entertainment Center
Looks great.
I might toy with a wider crown profile, and/or add in some sort of band moulding to separate the lower cabinets with doors from the open shelves above (on the end boxes). Then again, I like cabinet jewelry, and sometimes less is more. Love the arches. Painted or stained? |

Re: Entertainment Center
WOW man, that's awesome!! How'd you do that? I ain't got the patience for google sketch up. I like the heck out of that!
I will put some kind of trim to separate the cabinets from the shelves. She wants to paint it but as in most other times I've done cabinet work when the customers wants it painted, after it's done they usually want to stain it then! Again Leo, that's cool as heck! I hope you don't care if I print that off & show it to the customer? Thanks man!One problem I see I might have is on the right side cabinet door. I think the window stool might interfere with the opening of the door. I ain't sure yet, I'll have to get some measurements to be sure. Last edited by woodbutchr; 08-18-2009 at 07:00 PM. |

Re: Entertainment Center
Imma throw out my pricing for this job & see how far off I am from what y'all would do it for?
I priced it at $2,660.00 I'll have $770.00 in materials, using Birch. I figure a couple days in the shop building it & a day installing it. That's $78 bucks @ hour & I won't use my helper for the build, only the install. How far off am I? Oh yeah, I don't paint or stain! That's not included. Re: Entertainment CenterQuote:
You may be really fast but I would budget more shop time. 40 hrs would sit well. The install should be a one day deal but you might have to go back for something. $2700 just seems like you are leaving something on the table if you are asking me. Glad to see you are making a play on this type of work though.
