Door Bench (as Requested By Basswood)

Here's a few pics of my door bench as requested by Basswood. There's still a few refinements (a handle on one end) & I haven't had a good run of work hanging doors with it yet, but so far it's good. I was a little worried about the weight, but the pneumatic wheels & designing all the heavy stuff to sit over them has eliminated that concern. Up & down stairs has worked out pretty good as well. I wanted to eliminate all the traffic concerned with getting the right gear out, & thought if all the tools lived in the bench & it was OK to move around with that weight it would be a bonus. The PVC snorkle for the Festool vaccuum hose is as yet untested, but if you've used the Festool vaccy you'll know that bloody hose snags on every edge. I also want to use the vaccy when planing edges to all but take care of the mess of dust shavings....goes over well with the customers.

Loading up into the van, everything is designed to stay in place when tilted up on edge.

Before anyone asks what the blue thingy is, its a door lifter. Works great, invented by a fella here in Oz. If I had more than 15 posts I could include the link here, but it wont let me. Its the www then ezyhangdoorlifter.com.

Matt,

Ingenious!!

Great work & Design, I figured that is what the hollow alum tubes were for, do the 2 - 2 1/2" holes in the sides serve a specific purpose?

Looks like a real time saver - very professional!

Thanks Roger, the alum was 3mm wall, a little heavier than I needed so I had the holes CNC milled to reduce the weight....makes it looks like a racing model as well!

Wonderful door bench Matt!

Lots of good ideas there. You've got me thinking.

If it is not too big a bother, take some process pics the next time you are working on some doors with it.

I'm gonna look at your pics again... something to study.

Actually, I was inquiring about the holes in the sides of the main box?

Now that I read my post over, I didn't ask the question very clearly

Thanks,
Roger

Thanks Bass. The concept as I'm sure you're all aware is not mine but Gary Katz's, or thats where I first saw it (I just had a panic attack realising I posted this without acknowledging the original inventor). I just made it to suit me. I also need a hook at the end to hold the door in the upright position

Ohhh, OK. Same reason, weight & sex appeal. Actually, they're also a good place to grab hold of when the bench is standing on one end & you have to manouver it about.

Awesome bench Matt. I can see Gary Katz's original idea but you certainly expanded on that and added some really original ideas. Very cool.

Re: Door Bench (as Requested By Basswood)

I think I saw a few Systainers hiding out in the van as well. Looks like a good idea, just looks cumbersome. May not be at all though.

How do you like the HL 850 E? Nice setup.
