Do You Really Need To Mud Corners Under Crown?

Just wondering what the point is in mudding the drywall seams if it's going to be underneath the trim? Am I way off here, of could you just about save enough money to buy the trim?

I'm looking at building a house for myself, and was just pondering spending the money to pay for mudding those joints if it was pointless. This will be a steel frame house so walls will be straight. Thanks.

Re: Do You Really Need To Mud Corners Under Crown?

Thanks. But...
There are no fire codes or any other codes out here. Since it's my house that allows me to pretty much ignore codes if they are useless codes for the situation. It will have steel studs, foam sheating, fiberglass insulation, so should be pretty darn fireproof.

Would there still be any benefit to mudding the top drywall corners? Not just to meet codes which don't apply where this house is being built? Also, shoot me, but I'll be applying the foam crown trim that glues on, so there will be no air-flow or anything through that joint. Would there be any fire danger with this setup, and how? Thanks.

irc 2006, codes for everyone.

Come on it'll save you like 100 bucks to not do it. Big whoop.

Do yourself a favor and don't glue on foam trim.
