Different Species Of Wood?

hey fellas,

I wanted some other professional opinions. This just happens to be my house but I am going to be putting down some hardwood floors, not sure what species yet, I thinking cherry. There is carpet everywhere now. I hate oak floors but the stairs already have oak treads and rails, which I don't mind on the stairs. I don't want to change them but I was curious how you guys think it would look with the different kinds of wood or should I just change the treads and rails?
I can't remember if I have ever seen this before in customers homes.

Thanks

I agree, contrasting wood species ( colors ) look fine when you have a lot of wood- flooring , casing , base , cabinets , ect. in a room. I think it breaks up the same 'ole look you see everywhere.

It might also depend on the stain colors of each, contrasting or similar stain colors. Maybe even a lighter wood like a maple or a natural cherry. One good thing about the maple, it is alot harder than the cherry and it seems to be more durable.

i second the maple suggestion. That and it is so light colored you can do just about any color stain on it.

I was assuming he meant Brazilian cherry, and if you run a reddish based color on the oak treads, to bring them into the same hue as the natural braz cherry. my .02

Re: Different Species Of Wood?

Just finished off a kitchen. Had existing oak flooring and cabinets. I did custom casings and the baseboard with maple and added a maple butcher block counter top. The customer is very happy with it, me....so..so. I'm not a big fan of mixing woods

I will add red oak and walnut do look good
