DeWalt 734 Surface/Thickness Planer

Has anyone had any experience with the Dewalt planer Model 734? I bought a Hitachi ($350.00) and after a few days of use a piece broke off that held the outfeed table hinge. I returned it to Lowes. They did not have a replacement in stock so I purchased the Dewalt 734 for a few bucks more. I was just wondering what I can expect from this planer in the future. I do not use the tool on a regular basis, however when ya need it ya need it.

Re: DeWalt 734 Surface/Thickness Planer

i don't have the dewalt, but i do have the delta 22-580. (i think that is the correct model number). Anyway, if you can return the dewally, i would. Although i am sure the dewally will do what you need from it, the delta is sweet. it has 2 speeds, a 60 cpi and a 90 cpi. i use the 60 cpi for hogging off stuff and then the 90 when i am done. with the 90, the board passes thru the planer a little slower, but there is very little sanding that needs to be done when you are finished.

I did return the Dewalt after an hour and a half of bickering with Lowes to get a full refund, another story. I replaced it with the 12 inch Makita. This is one smooth machine. Smaller, lighter and smooth. Cost a few bucks more but I believe I'll be happy with it. I am going to have to order the optional dust hood however.
