Decent Lock Boring Jig

Hey everyone. I am long time member but newbie poster so please bear with me.
I am looking for a new lock boring jig. The one I currently use is a metal Weiser brand but it is badly worn out and I can't seem to find another of that brand anywhere. I was talked into trying the Porter Cable jig and found that it worked very poorly (especially for the cost). I am currently looking at the Kwikset model as it seems to be the closest to the Weiser model. Any suggestions?

I have a Classic Enginering it's about 15 years old, they hold up very well and replacement bushings are less than $10.

I've used the Kwikset model and was duly unimpressed ... though I can't actually recall why ... I'm sure it was for a good reason though.

Re: Decent Lock Boring Jig

I own the Kwikset jig and it works fine for the small amount I use it. Although it did take a little tweaking before I was happy with it, the back set adjustment has two ball catches that needed to be locktited into place. The bit's were also dull out of the box but this jig isn't supposed to be used for all day long production line though. That said I'm still fairly happy with it's performance

Check out the Templaco web site.

Kwikset, which is owned by Black and Decker, also owns Weiser as well as Baldwin.

I am looking at buyig the Carbide Tiped Templaco BJ-115 Deluxe Bore Master and the Bosch 83038 Deluxe Door and Jamb Hinge Template Kit. I have seen them in action at the commercial door shop and was duly impressed.

I have a Templaco & a Classic Engineering jigs. Both are very high quality. A little spendy but well worth it.
