Re: Cutting Round Stock
Just cut some 45s in a board and use it as a sled. I cut bamboo and other round stock this way.

Re: Cutting Round Stock
I think ProCraftsman is wondering how to make sure that round stock with a miter on both ends can be held to insure that, lets say 2 45's, are on the same plane. In other words, the round stock doesn't roll a bit from one cut to the next.
I have taken that stock and ran it through a shaper or a tablesaw to put a very light flat spot on one side of it. I always turn this side down when I use them for a handrail and sand the spot round when I can't.

Re: Cutting Round Stock
Joe Woods sled would work very well to hold stock while cutting.
I use something similar (2 steel angles welded in an X) when drilling round stock on a drill press. I just align the X centered on the drill bit, & then drill the round stock in the top V. An alternative would be to make up a wood L with the inside of one leg, 1/2 the diameter of the round stock. It would look like an angle iron when done. Then all you have to do is lay round stock in the V, & mark the stock at both points your going to cut along edge of L, without rotating. Use a piece of the same angle fastened to your miter box to make the cuts. Cut with index marks aligned with top of L. You might want to fasten the saw's L to a 1x ? to help clamp, or fasten to saw. That would insure all cuts to be on same plane. Joe |

Re: Cutting Round Stock
+Jeo`s idea is just right if the first cut in your stock is 45 take a piece of what you`ve cut out of the sled (this would look a triangle in cross section) and cut it at 45 tack nail this back in the sled, cut the stock at 45 and bang it up to this piece. This will allow you to cut your next angle on the same plane.Have fun.
