Crown Vaulted Ceilings?

What miter devise do you use to calculate miters in vaulted ceilings? I know there are alot gizmos out there, but which one is the best for vaulted ceilings?

Kev do an advanced search on Tom R (member name) and "transition". (Found this one)

You'll have to have a transition piece to go from level areas of ceiling to the 'vaulting' areas.

Gary Katz also has a nice article on this available at http://www.garymkatz.com/TrimTechniq...ansitions.html

Good luck.

Nice link, thanks.
There is an old fashioned, no math way to figure the miter for odd angles.
Set the angle with the T-bevel.
Align the "handle" with the edge of a piece of paper.
Mark along the blade.
Fold the mark to the "handle edge".
You have divided the original angle in half, giving the miter angle.

If you're careful and accurate with the fold, it works every time....
even when the brain is too tired for real math.

Guh...so you do or you dont have to do the pie shaped transition piece for the change of slope and plane every time??

Yes, to do it correctly, you do.

The only other options I can think of, - - are either 'corner blocks', - - or trying to mate different-sized crowns together (narrower crown on rake wall meets wider crown at eave wall).

The only other way is if you have a very low slope, - - and you make your crowns meet by slightly 'tweaking' (cheating) their sitting-angles.

Give it a try, Kev, takes more time to tell you how to do it than it actually takes to do it.
