Crown To Sloped Ceiling
we want to run 2 piece crown ( base + crown ) to the sloped ceiling.It looks like about a 12/12 pitch (45 deg.) and on all four walls (hip roof). The crown we will use will be 37 deg. . My question is should we put the crown tight to the ceiling or hold it down some?

yes thanks..what we have is a trayed ceiling,and a photo covered that.If I want to hold the crown tight to the ceiling,I must rip the top edge on the back.

I dont like the look of that transition. It is a nifty technique for sure but I just dont think it looks proper from an architectural standpoint. I tend not to force transitions that aren't technically supposed to work

On shallow vaults, you can just cheat the spring angles and skip the transition piece. If an owner wants crown on a vault and will pay me to do it, I don't talk them out of it. The transition piece is small and the overall effect can look nice, so it is a good thing to be able to do. Here is an interesting view of a vault with crown and the transition pieces at the 4 bottom corners:
