Crown And Shutter Question

Hello all, I was curious as to how crown would transition to a different ceiling height, like 10' going to a 9'. I am no finish carpenter by any means, and this would be the first home we have done crown in. I just want to have an idea what is right so I know what to look for when the finish guy does it for my customer. Also the home has bull nose corners, does that pose any issues with the crown? Furthermore, with the windows having bull nose corners, does that pose any problems with putting plantation shutters on with trim? Thank you very much for your time and advice.....

Re: Crown And Shutter Question

If you're talking about a 'vaulted' ceiling, - - here's a picture of a little mock-up I did a while back for demonstration purposes of a crown in transition . . .

If you're talking about two separate flat ceilings at different heights, - - the crown of the lower one would usually return back into (or around) the wall, - - really hard to say without seeing pics of the room(s) first. And also, - - there will usually be several different choices/opinions of how it would look best . . .

As far as the plantation shutters, - - again, would need to see pics of the windows, - - and would need to know how much 'depth' you have to recieve the thickness of the shutters, - - the more the better. Right off the top of my head, - - sounds like you would need to apply a narrow square-stock first, - - to receive the shutter edges (and hinges) . . .
