Cordless Miter Saw

Hi all , I have just joined the site so please be patient

I am an onsite carpenter over here in the UK and am looking for a cordless miter saw for my onsite finish work,my criteria is its got to be pretty powerful and portable.
I had a Dewalt 24v that was stolen from my works van and have tried a few others but am really looking for a good model that is as least 24v and up....also is there any news out there of any lithium miter saws coming out in the near future?

Cheers

Steve

Re: Cordless Miter Saw

The only cordless miter saws here in the states I know of are Makita's and Bosch. A guy I work with has the Makita, its a pretty nice saw all around. I have seen the Dewalt UK site and am a little jealous over some of the tools you guys get. I have been trying to find a dealer who could get some over here.

Didn't know they made cordless mitre saws. How many cuts do you get before you change the batery? And if your plugging the baterry to recharge why don't you just plug in the saw and save yourself the trip? I don't understand the reasoning for buying one- enlighten me.

Ya i know Bosch has one, but i can't imagine that you would get that many cuts with it. Imagine turning a 10"-12" blade, and think about how many 2x4's you can cut with a cordless circular saw that only has to turn a 5-6 some cases 7 inch blades. I bet the cordless miter doesn't work to well.

Onsite carpentry work can be so physical that anything that makes the job easier is a blessing.
There are never any power outlets onsite, apart from finished houses and they are normally well away from the house you are working in ...so we can get over that by using a generator, but after the 50th time of asking trying to hulk a great 55lb generator over a building site it can be a great relief to just take one miter saw out of the van with 2 fully charged batteries, they will last all day easily.
The new generation of miter saws can easily cope with the rigors of first and well as second fix carpentry, they cut like a corded saw.
So its really down to portability and ease of use, so remember to charge those work batteries overnight

I actually keep an 8" Ryobi cordless mitre saw around for those odd occasions when I have to make just a cut or two and there's not an outlet anywhere. Bought it on Ebay for $100....

99% of the time I use my corded Dewalt 12" chop saw.

I believe Makita rates their's at 100 cuts through 1x6 pine on one battery. The guy I work with likes it for simple cuts in pine, I wouldn't want to go cutting a lift of 2x with it. A few extra batteries and you probably could go all day on just finish work cuts.

I want one! Put 2 pieces of base in up to a new fire place cast yesterday...the time it took me to unload and un-ravel my cords, plug in and unload and set up my saw...then to put it all back... took longer than it took me to do the base.

Same here- I got one of those as part of a 6-piece kit years back, and love it for the occasional "need to cut three pieces of trim" type of project. It's light, accurate, and doesn't require dragging out a 100' cord for 5 minutes worth of work. It definitely won't replace a full-size corded saw for many jobs, but if I was doing punch-out/handyman type work, it'd probably be fine for 75% of the jobs.

I'm not sure they even sell them anymore, though.
