Building A Maple Book Case
Soon I'm building a large maple cabinet section. The book case will be about ten feet long and ten feet high. It will be stained and clear-coated.
Should I pre-finish the parts before assembly? |

Re: Building A Maple Book Case
Are you building the unit in sections and then delivering? I build all my large cabinets in sections and finish each section before delivery. I may have to make minor touch ups on site but it is better than finishing the whole thing on site. I try to spend as little time in the client's home as possible. Less time is less mess to clean up.

Re: Building A Maple Book Case
Thanks for responding. What I mean is should I try to finish the sides, tops, backs and bottoms before I assemble the cupboards or wait until after I build the units.
I will be installing after the finish is on them. |

Re: Building A Maple Book Case
I am not a finishing guru but I have found it is always easier to finish cabinets with finished interiors prior to assembly. Especially units with multiple compartments and hard to reach areas. You will thank yourself later.
