Bet You Haven't Done This Before.

I have a job to put a surround on a stainless steel sink. Make it look like a cabinet. Today I went to do the fitting before I finish it. A little more time but I don't have to deal with working on a finished product.

Here's a before and sort of after, just the basic face frame and side. The side will have a panel and the holes will have doors and drawers, all overlay.

After, not done yet of course.

Pretty cool leo! Looks good so far

Are the owners of this house by any chance italian? And is this a second kitchen in the basement?

I know a bunch of italians and they all have the same type of set up in the basement. Got to have two kitchens

What a difference. It looked awkward and top-heavy before. Nice job!
(Is that receptacle to the right of the sink loaded on a GFCI?)

I have too polished a few turd's in my day.

Is that in someone's house?

I have done something for the old cast iron wall mount kitchen sinks, the ones that weigh 300lbs and are 4' long.

What do you want me to say? I went there to look at a wainscoting job and they bring me downstairs and tell me they want the sink and the butcher block table to look like cabinets.

They are made out of maple, will have overlay raised panel doors and slab drawers. They will have some sort of a profile on the edge. The left end of the sink will have an applied raised panel. The butcher block table is the same thing, the face frame will be attached to the edge of the butcher block and the top will be capped of with a cove molding to make the transition look nice.

Both pcs will be getting a brown stain with heavy yellow undertones. They had a picture frame with the color and I took it and will have it matched. It will get a satin finished lacquer [MLC MagnaMax or MagnaKlear].

No kitchen in the basement. The name sounds italian, but they don't look it.

Does'nt look like you can put any drawers in there. Are you going to put dummy fronts on there or cut those braces so you can?

Re: Bet You Haven't Done This Before.

The sink just has faux drawers. The butcher block table already has a center drawer and it will function as a drawer. The really don't care about the functionality of it. There will be no deck or partitions or anything in either of the surrounds. It is strictly an appearance issue.

After I downloaded the pics from my camera to my computer I even said wow myself at how it went from a stark bare sink to what will look like a cabinet. It'll look great when it has doors/drawers and a stain and finish.

Re: Bet You Haven't Done This Before.

Someone mentioned that there was no sticker on the outlet. I doubt it is GFCI. I'm a cabinet maker. If I remember, I'll mention it to them.

Yep, or on the load side of another GFCI.
