Best Nail Punch

First, I want to make two clarifications:

I am only talking about nail punches for trim.

I am not talking about nail “sets.”

(A “nail punch” has a sleeve that slides over hand drive nails allowing you to “punch” them from further away and helps prevent your hammer from either bending the nail, or slipping of the nail and denting the trim. It’s kind of like the new apexes with screw sleeves – but for nails.)

Now that we’ve cleared that up, I use a trim nail punch by Malco.

Is this the best nail punch, or is there what might be considered a better one?

i like these better

I also use their nail set more though. One of the ones i have has a nail punch on one side and a nail set on the other.

Interesting . . . It seems like the smaller spring nail punch and spring nail set would be better for gun nails. I will probably still need my bigger standard punch and set for hand drives though.

What tasks do you use the other Spring Tools for? For example, those chisels are pretty tiny.

Yeah I use one of those malco's for fascia nails. Um never crossed my mind to use it for trim nails, guess I am just a better nailer. I dont like those spring loaded do-dads, always thought they were hoaky. Had a Super show up from Paul Davis one time, he gave me one, thought they were the coolest thing, I filled it in the trash can right by him. I think he dug it out and never showed me any more of his cool tools.

i have never used the little chisel. That was just the first pics i found on the web. I have finished off hand drive finish nails with the spring set. (Though i can probably count on one hand how many hand driven finish nails i have set period.)
