Bending A Handrail

Hi everyone,
I am new to contractor talk, I am a finish carpenter in MI and I have a curved balcony rail I am going to be bending. I am interested in your experiences with bending handrails. For example, what type of glue should I use, if I need to overbend the rail, and how much?

Welcome ..."88"
There was a nice thread about building a rail
for a circular stair, around 4 or 5 months ago.
Try a search.
Maybe someone else can remember more?

Like this one?

When we did this one we screwed blocks to the floor right where you want the rail to be and used reverse profile blocks with the 1/4" strips of rail sanwiched between. We let it sit 'dry' in the clamps for a few days before pulling it apart and glueing it up. The brand name of the glue escapes me right now but it was a powdered glue you mix with water.

Yea we ran out of ballusters.. Either I put them to close or the supplier shorted me This was a pretty big rail so it could have been a little of both.

Re: Bending A Handrail

Great work on the stairway RT. I ended up using a plastic resin glue that is a powder mixed with water. I did not really like it because it was very thick and sticky. I had a hard time glueing up all the pieces and getting it clamped up before the glue started setting up. I think I might try Titebond Hide glue next time.
