Bead Board Cutter?

I need to make some custom bead board and I am having a hard time finding a knife for my shaper. I have several beading knifes but they all leave a flat shoulder cut on the side of the bead. I need a chamfer or "v" groove along side the bead.

I need a cutter like the one in this picture but the flat part of the knife needs to be on a 45 degree angle.

Any ideas??

It is a very common profile in bead board so I am suprised I am having a hard time finding the cutter I want.

Dave

Re: Bead Board Cutter?

I'm surprised ,too.
Very common design,I would think.

I use an older Sears table saw shaper(You know the ones that hold three blades) It has the profile that you need--I believe Sears no longer makes it,however another company appears to be selling one just like it.

I saw an add somewhere but I don't remember who they are.

I like the tool because it allows me to 'fake' bead board out of solid stock.---Mike--

I have one of those Craftsman rigs. I have a beading bit but not with that profile. I have not used that thing in years.

I would not know where to look for cutters for that thing. I hope someone has an idea.

If I end up using that I will have to take the time to mount my power feeder to my table saw. I have been wanting to do that for years. Any of you guys bother to use a power feeder on your table saw?

Re: Bead Board Cutter?

Get it custom made....

http://magnate.net/downloads/CustMade.pdf

The procedure is as follows:

1)Please download and fill out our Custom Made Tooling Information Sheet. E-mail or fax (800-733-9076 or 909-468-5745) the sheet with the dimensions of the Cutters that you want. Specify the number of wings or flutes and rotation. If the dimensions is not easy to describe, the ACTUAL size of wood sample is desired.

2)Upon receiving your drawing or wood sample, Magnate will quote you the pricing usually within 24-48 hours by e-mail, fax or phone whichever you prefer.

3)Upon your agreement with the pricing, Magnate will provide you with the CAD-like drawing (see example below) for your approval. Magnate's trained personnel will then discuss the drawing with you if you have any questions.

4)You will give us written approval or your signature on the final drawing.
5)Upon receiving the written approval or your signature, Magnate will make the Cutters according to the final drawing you approved.
6)It usually takes 7-10 working days before we can ship the Cutters. Rush orders may require an extra charge.

Shipped in 7 to 10 days.....

Re: Bead Board Cutter?

Couldn't you take the cutter you have to your sharpening shop and have it ground like you want it?

Thanks for posting. I may just have to buy that set.

Re: Bead Board Cutter?

The one I have is rather cheap compared to that. It runs on a table saw.

I am not sure I see the advantage to the one you posted. It runs on a shaper, correct? If I wanted to run it on my shaper I would rather buy the correct shaper head. The cutters for that thing don't seem to be much cheaper than a knife for my shaper.

Thanks for the info.

I just looked at the picture again and I maybe it is for a table saw. forget everything I just said

Re: Bead Board Cutter?

That Magic Moulder is for a table saw. They have gotten some pretty good reviews in woodworking magazines. They do have shaper heads too.
