Re: Basic Arts And Crafts Rail In Remodel
As I mentioned, I use PL Premium, to glue the iron in the bottom hole. The top holes are drilled smaller than the bottom holes (the tops of the balusters have round ends that fit in a smaller hole). Then I lifted the balusters up until the square corners, just below the round top, grab the hole with the square corners of the iron. To keep them held tight at the top, I then tighten the set screw on the escutcheons and ultimately the glue sets up and secures the bottom of the baluster and the escutcheon too.
Clear as mud? I gotta get back to work, but I'll get some more pics together later. |

Re: Basic Arts And Crafts Rail In Remodel
To keep track of the baluster glue-up, I start with all of the balusters turned 45*, and square them up with the bottom rail as I glue them. This makes it easy to see, at a glance, where I am with the process.
Before I start the glue up, I do two things shown in these pics: Run all the set screws all the way in, and... then, back the screws out just a quarter turn. This allows me to move the "baluster" feet up the balusters, but I can quickly and easily tighten them up with just a 1/4 turn. |
