Re: Bamboo Plywood

I have not used bamboo ply before but I'm ordering 20 sheets next week for a job. I'm curious how it's going to be to work with it myself.

Re: Bamboo Plywood

not sure about ply but I worked with bamboo flooring recently. When the stuff tears out its gets "stringy". I just used a 60tooth blade when I was making miter cuts, cut fine. I tried using a chisel in one spot to scrape an area down, bad mistake. stringy and then some.

and I do agree with d. foster, it does dent easy. I had the same problem with the bamboo floor I installed. After it was installed the property owner rolled a 600lb steel cabinet over it...you were able to see dents from the casters the entire way across the floor. I told him he didn't want that floor, but he "apparently" is always right (but just never correct )

That'll be a good bank roll.

Bamboo is a grass, it is stringy for that very reason. Normal woodworking tools should do fine. Use a 60-80 tooth for the tablesaw and a trim blade for the chopsaw. It will glue fine with normal glues.

Buying small quantities I was paying about $240 for a 4 x 8 sheet of 3/4", $145 for a 1/4" x 4 x 8 and $96 for the solid 13/16" x 12" x 96"

What are you getting it for?

I'm getting 4 X 8 3/4" for $185 - the 1/4" is going for $170. I'm super excited about this job - the whole green thing is good for business plus I've been floundering a bit recently - this will set me up for a month solid - everything is signed and pick the check up next week - thank god
I'll take lots o' pics!

Re: Bamboo Plywood

Bamboo dents like crazy!!! We pot down a bamboo engineered floor and the clients high heels were tearing it up! We thought it was us so we replaced some boards(after appliances were in). Then there were more and more. they should not have that in a kitchen

This is from a company called cali bamboo ( www.calibamboo.com ). They are supplying a local building supplier of mine who had a few sheets in stock I was able to check out. I don't know if cali bamboo is getting plyboo in bulk and reselling it or what their deal is. I called them directly and spoke with their B2B guy who gave me a price of $165/sheet for 3/4" before he realized they were supplying my local building supplier and then told me i would have to deal with them and pay their price ($185).

Re: Bamboo Plywood

I did a whole kitchen a couple years ago with bamboo.
I like it. The finished veneer is 1/8" thick front and back with 1/2" core. You can't sand through that.
The material seems to be real flat and stable so larger doors are not a big stress sandwich.
Some guys just sand up the edges real nice and let the cross bands show. That looks nice but a lot of sanding. We found a good edge banding that didn't splinter up at the ends.
I remember paying about $180 for 3/4" from plyboo through our local supplier.
Cutting it is no different than cutting veneer plywood. It will splinter on the crosscut without a good blade.
