12' Interior Opening-What Are The Door Options?
Met with some prospects for a new room addition. They want a 12' opening in the "back wall" (existing house wall) into the new room with glass doors all the way across. They do not want french doors. The first product that comes to mind is an Andersen 12' slider with the 2 center doors that slider to the sides creating just under a 6' opening. However, this is a room addition and it would look cobbled with an exterior door, inside the house.
Any ideas on how to accomplish the same thing with interior doors? Preferably without a threshold. Thought about a pocket type arrangement or hanging doors. Anyone have experience with anything similar? Thanks. |

Thanks for the feedback. Nana is really cool stuff, but we don't need the weather protection since it's just between two interior rooms. They just want a barrier for sound and some privacy (even though the doors will have glass).

You could use something like this:
http://www.nanawalls.com/NanaWeb/Root/default.aspx I know I have seen this without a track at the bottom but I can not find the link at the moment. It is probably on the laptop. If I can find it, I will post it as well. Someone on CT I'm sure has seen it as well. |

They have a wall just for interior room separation.

Re: 12' Interior Opening-What Are The Door Options?
did a similar job for a resturaunt in downtown san diego last year. they had existing fixed panels but wanted thr indoor/outdoor effect. they contacted Nanawall but (a) they were pricey (b) nothing in natural wood. I fabricated a bunch of 36" single lite panels and put them together nanawall style and they came out great. the doors were hinged together w standard butt hinges and mounted in the openings w/ centermount hardware so that they folded together and slid all the way to one side. all in all a pretty simple project

Re: 12' Interior Opening-What Are The Door Options?
you're hinting on finding cheap alternatives. something as out of the ordinary as a 12' wall of doors should have started off by 'this is going to cost a little extra'. I don't see any reason you couldn't take an exterior door and remove the threshhold-that's 'carpentry' :-) You could located some Anderson Frenchwood wide set French door and take off the threshhold. Does the room(s) have hardwood? If so, mounting doors flush w/ subfloor will nearly even out threshhold and 3/4" strip flooring. There's ways around this...be creative. On the otherhand, if this is a customer w/ money, sell the good stuff!

Re: 12' Interior Opening-What Are The Door Options?
I've seen full devided lite slabs mounted to heavy duty gliding door hardware in a twelve foot opening, actually 11' 10" to allow a 1" overlap on the bypass, Slidebolts prevent doors from moving around undesireably.
