I think that you will be fine with any of the "big name" saws, makita, dewalt, bosch, etc... if you can try them out for a bit- you will develop a preference, everyone has a saw that fits their style better than others - as for cutting accurate miters - that's a function of how accurately the saw is set up, and usally when you get a new saw it explains in the owners manual how to do this- I myself went with a 12" bosch- cause it was on sale 50 bucks cheaper than the 10"! go figure? I think you'll find that a lot of 10" saw prices are down now, cause everyone's promoting 12"..... read the reviews, and try them out!
good luck

Re: 10" Dual-Bevel Slide Miter Saw

I have all 12", and its overkill for most things that I do. If you can get away with a 10", its lighter, smaller, and buying new blades is cheaper.

P.S. I love my bosch 12", dont have a 10 though

Re: 10" Dual-Bevel Slide Miter Saw

I just sold my Bosch and I'm gonna miss it. I had the 12" but the 10 is about the same, just smaller. I'd say if there's one thing it has above all others is the front-end bevel control, which is awesome. As for precission, they don't come any more accurate.

The 12" also has a few other nice features, which the 10" probably has. The integrated table extensions, adjustable handle, left or right handed operation, and other stuff I can't think of off hand.

Oh, and one other thing. The indents for preset miters are slightly tapered, so they are very accurate and they stay that way. Or so I hear, didn't own mine long enough to test that theory.

I sold mine cuz I need the money, but when I'm back on my feet I'm definately getting another one.

Digging through the files on my website I found the article I wrote on the Bosch 5412L a couple of months ago. It's sort of amaturish so don't laugh. Still, it gives you a close up look.

I agree. I think that the front bevel adjustment should win A Contractor Talk Engineering award.

I use a Hitachi C10FSB and so does everyone that I work with (finish carpenters, siders, framers, stair builder). Everyone loves them.

Re: 10" Dual-Bevel Slide Miter Saw

I just got a Makita SCMS, it bevels in both directions. The unit was not set that well at the factory, it took about 20 minutes of playing with the fence to get perfect miters. It comes with both a laser and a work light. The work light is great, I can see what I am cutting! I have never been in love with lasers so I am happy that it has a on and off switch.

If your doing Crown or Chicago Bar Rail mouldings you will want a 12" I also like the 12" so I can trim down shelves for custom bookcases. Mount it on a Rigid Miter Saw stand with wheels and you won't have to worry aout the weight or mobility.

Re: 10" Dual-Bevel Slide Miter Saw

I just checked out that Bosch 10" sliding dual bevel miter saw, and it looks like I have a new purchase to make. Is it correct in the product specs that it only weighs 21 1/2 pounds?!? My Dewalt 12" is 62 pounds! What a nice change that would be. I'm not gettin' any younger!

If it weighs 21 pounds I'll buy 10. Maybe they mean Kilograms.

Re: 10" Dual-Bevel Slide Miter Saw

I have the bosch 10'' and it is a great machine. It is really fast and easy to set up for miters. It has a laser, but only set for one side of the cut. It may take a few cuts to get used to. As far as 20 lbs? I don't think so, it feels more around 45 . Amazon might have some stats. Get one of these and you will be hooked! Other people on sites use Dewalt but when I show up with mine, people always have good comments about the bosch.

Re: 10" Dual-Bevel Slide Miter Saw

I bought the new 12" Dewalt and it sucks!!!! Really disapointed with it. I'm going back to the Kita. Bosch has too many gidgets & gadgets on it to break and just to heavy & cumbersome. Probably a nice shop saw. Hate the new Dewalt !@!!!!!

Re: 10" Dual-Bevel Slide Miter Saw

I have the 12" Bosch it weighs in at 59lb. The 10" is about 3lb lighter, both big heavy muthas. I think doing it again I would try the 10" Metabo, Nearly the same capacity but weighs in at 40lbs or so.

Dewalt might be the best seller because all new contractors think they need a Dewalt.
