Your Website - Question About Your Leads

For those of you that have had a website for a while & track your leads from your site (ours is fairly new & not quite finished yet).

Can anyone give me an idea of what percentage of your leads come from people calling your phone number listed on your site vs. people that fill-out the contact form on your site? Thanks

Re: Your Website - Question About Your Leads

My site is a little over 3 months old. I would say that roughly 30% direct contact made by phone calls, and 70% through contact form.

I've noticed that the direct calls I receive tend to be more higher quality leads vs the leads I receive through my contact form.

I hope that helps a bit.

Martin Co.

Thanks for the info. We seem to be getting a lot of J**k O**'s from our contact forms - although we have got a handful of good one's also.

I get a lot of them as well. It's funny what some of them ask for.

What do you mean?

Are they asking stupid questions? Trying to get free information? Seeing if your site works? trying to hack it?

Maybe there is a way to modify the contact form and ask them to put more detailed information.

Thanks.

This is typical. And another reason why SM and all the rest of the online lead services leads are what they are since basically 100% of their leads are obtained by an online form.

The online form is impersonal and less intimidating then picking up the phone, so when someone is borderline serious or just curious they will fill out a form and hit a submit button but wouldn't actually risk the unknown of a verbal conversation.

Another interpretation is that they don't like to be pressured into a decision. A contact form lets them inquire without feeling obligated.

If you are buying web development services costing thousands of dollars will you call a web developer on the phone? You'll probably email them.

I think a lot of people who shop on the internet are 'research-oriented' - they like to do a lot of their own research before committing. This is why the real estate market is almost all on the internet. People find what they want and then call an agent when they are ready to buy.

So maybe you should focus on helping then even before they make contact. Give them the information they need to trust you.

Re: Your Website - Question About Your Leads

Every leaqd since my site went live at the end of January had merit.

Some were just too friggin far away to bother with though and others called in the middle of deep freeze with 14" of frozen snow and ice on the roofs and didn't want to wait till I could see the roof.

They all seem serious to me though.

I am new at getting website leads, and I didn't break down the phone calls versus the contact us form inquiries.

Plus, I get a lot of leads now that just state Google or Yahoo when asked, but I am on a lot of free directory sites and Google local.

Actually, my company comes up 5 times on page one of Google through various submission directories with my name in the readable paragraph below the direct link. Some days, it is only 4 times, but that also includes Google Local Maps for Letter A on the map spot.

Sometimes it's like yanking teeth to find out where they got your name from though.

Ed

edit:
Okay, just 4 times just now. I searched, "Roofers In Carpentersville, Illinois"

I totally agree, right on the money. At least through our own websites we can eliminate the tire-kickers and poorly planned budgets, without having to pay a fee.

I removed the contact forms from my site because I got tired of the spam that started occurring. Might put it back in one day.

Re: Your Website - Question About Your Leads

I have gotten 48 requests so far this year and never once have i gotten spam through my contact form.

I have also found all of them to be serious customers. I looked back and the only bad lead was someone wanting cut and drop which we dont do. which i guess isn't even a bad lead

About 30 requests for estimates a week come through our contact form.
Maybe about 20 phone calls

Thanks George,

Out of your approx. 30 online contact form leads, what % are "good" leads? Also, how long have you had your site?

My business grew since I implemented all these blocks and started using them as my main source of advertising.

Bottom line! a website alone is not going to do anything for you.
It helps to fill out all the profiles that you can find when you search for your business presence online. Follow the links to other directories and include your URL. after I did that I saw my presence increase. Of course you should have a basic business phone listing to begin with. Its tough to optimise your presence with a cell number. Online directories will pick up your business land line automatically. I have two land lines, There was a time when you moved that you couldn't take your number with you. So rather than lose all my old customer base in the 521 area code when I moved in 95 I forwarded it to the 613 area code.

As far as a "call to action" I get a lot of spam from my web form. I am trying to use CAPCHA to prevent the form spam bots from using it. But I haven't figured it out yet. the legitimate lead to form spam ratio is about 1 to 6

http://www.captcha.net/

I do get legitimate leads through the form. Its about a 1 to 4 form request / phone call ratio. I ask how they found me. Most say the internet but are non specific. But after doing a bit of googlevestigating. I can see why. there are many ways they could have found me. I just wish my phone would ring more often.
