Yellowpages Ad Copy

I have attached a proof of our leader ad for the YP this year. Critiques and suggestions appreciated. Add is actual size and will run as a leader right under the heading prior to any other ads and listings. I am one of three of these. It was about 10% of the cost of the full page with my online advertising discount.

Re: Yellowpages Ad Copy

I'm not a fan of starbursts, but I'd be willing to forgive this one. The heading is OK, but I think you could find something more attention getting if you brainstorm it more. I would also reduce the logos at the bottom at least 10% and swap them out with the phone number so the phone number is at the bottom of the ad where people expect to see it.

On the plus side, good use of white space and keeping the ad lean. It's an above average quality ad which is always a good thing.

I am assuming you do residential roofing? I like the add but am unsure as to what a "pinnacle rhino roof" is (most homeowners don't know GAF and OC are shingle manufacturers); spell that out for us dummies and you have a winner!

I really like the blue .com

Re: Yellowpages Ad Copy

Ed,

Let me start by stating that the majority of roofs installed in Texas are done by ripping off the existing shingles, going over the existing felt with 15#, using all the existing flashings, etc., no valley ice/water or metal...just lapped felt, etc. Rotted areas are generally fixed by slapping some tin over the hole. The majority of roofers around these parts think that new shingles constitute a new roof system.

That being said, without having to go into each detail and method of our typical roof install, our systems meet or exceed the specs required by the major manufacturers for full NDL warranties. Although we tend to be more pricy, it is a very easy objection to address and overcome as we can show people why we have confidence in our warranty. They can see the difference in our scope of work. Most companies around here throw warranties around just to impress customers but don't do anything different than they did when we were all giving 1 year warranties. That's well pointed out in my presentation as well. I can underqualify most any company if given the chance to go apples to apples.

Sell less roofs, make more money. It's not a bad concept. Beats an assembly line. Your clients tend to be more quality oriented, which in turn leads to more referrals and extras.

How about your billboard ad - maybe tweaked a little bit more to focus on the roof. Consistent use of the logo & messages is what gets you remembered & called, or so I have heard...

I tend to agree.

If you give too much information, they don't have to call you.

You want to catch their eye, and give them enough information to make them curious enough to call you.

Re: Yellowpages Ad Copy

I'd put something like

Name of Business
what you do

"20% off for those people who actually still use the phone book"

and your number

(oh, and don't forget your website)

Really, you mind as well print a job application in the yellow pages, because that's the only type of people that will be calling. And the occasional "what's your price per square foot" callers.
