Word Of Mouth Vs Google

Ok...........in this day and age everyone thinks they need a web page. But when it all comes down to it what works better?......satisfied customers are the key, right?

Not sure where I'm going with this cuz I just needed to vent. I just bought a domain name and if I type it into Google it says "no results" I would think of that's the only page with that name it would show at least on result.

On the good side, my site does come up on page four of one search.

Re: Word Of Mouth Vs Google

You need to submit your site to the search engines and set up you keywords and meta tags correctly to show up in searches.

That being said, we've done the website, google adwords, internet directories, etc. Word of mouth still produces better results by far. It beats radio, yellow pages and other forms of local advertising as well. I think it comes down to people having been bombarded with advertising for so long now that they just tend to completely ignore it.

You've got to get some keywords in there that will make your site show up when people search for your service. I have never paid for SEO, but my site does pretty well in results due to my keywords. That being said, I set up my site mainly as a showcase for our work, so potential clients can easily see it whenever they want. Keeps me from needing to lug around a photo album. Also, people seem to equate a website with a stable, well-established company. Whether that's the case or not, that seems to be the way they think.

1. Yellowbook=2 jobs, too many tirekickers.
2. Website=several jobs
3. Word of mouth=many jobs
4. Local newspaper insert=one job
5. Hand-delivered flyers to homes, tucked in doors=many jobs
6. Direct-Mail postcards=zero jobs, so far

Of course word of mouth works great if you've got enough mouths producing the words. Some businesses, especially those that turn jobs over quickly, can never have enough w-o-m leads to keep them going. This also applies to new firms, of course.

Word of Mouth is usually the best for us as well. Angie's List is a great way to promote word of mouth. We offer our Clients a $5 gift card to write a letter or post us on Angie's List. Clients gain more confidence in us after viewing Angie's List and seeing customer comments on our web site. Just a case of the High Tech being supported by flesh and blood.
