Windows For $189.00

How does Window World sell and install a window for $189?
I can't even buy a window for under $200.
Any ideas?

I can buy a window for $90 and install it for $189 but I would never. The 189 window they have is a bare bones window. They charge extra for wraps, argon, grids, double locks, stops etc.

Nice looking house.

Which version on the price list did they settle on?

That is one confused house. Neo Greek Revival with Tudor accents... in stucco no less... ugh. Wow. Good looking window job, but wow.

That is what I call an Old Glory job. Toss a flag over the plans and just do it for Old Glory.

Not yet.

I have recently added Vinyl Siding to the roofing menu and have chosen to use .046 Alside Charter House for the 3 jobs I sold last month.

I am getting around $ 450.00 per square for it pretty easily, with a good small quality oriented sub supplying all material and labor.

Windows will be next year probably, with early advertising towards the mid-end of winter.

Re: Windows For $189.00

Windows are an odd market. We replace windows but don't advertise it much. Too many cons, gimicks and high pressure in the iwndow market.

Can I do a window for $189? I sure can. Here is how it works...

Mr. customer how did you hear about us? Oh that's great you saw our add for $189.

So that's our basic window package which includes removal of the exisitng window and replacement with a new vinyl insert window. We'll leave the old windows on your front lawn stacked neatly for you to dispose. You're going to want to buy some good paintable caulk for the interior, since that's not included. You can also rent a braeak for the exerior aluminum cladding to do yourself. Don't forget before you cap off the window exterior you'll want to insulate the space between the old frame and the new window.

What? Oh you don't want to do these things yourself, then let's talk about our premium package for $800 a window which does include these things.

That's how it works. I install simonton windows, and even their cheapest window will cost me at least $150. Then I pay my installer $85 per window with capping. That means if I charge any less than $235 I am losing money. Next, I don't usually sell the low end windows so I am looking more like $175 per window...

However I can get some cheap locally made windows for about $110. I can find installers willing to install the windows for half what I currently pay. Can it be done for $189? It certainly can.

Not a lot of taste with the average Houston Consumer. We love box houses here and sterility is the norm.

This house has flair by comparison to the average home.

I always wonder what they say when they pick someone up at the airport and bring them home. "That's my home the one with 6 bushes and the bigger pine tree!"

I forgot to mention. It's called a "Loss - Leader". I know a roofing company that advertises new flat roofing for $100. Fine print says per square. Still sounds likea great deal huh? It's nothing more than black coating which costs about $10 a square and one man can do 4 squares in an hour. Will they sell it? Sure they have to by law or they are false advertising. However! A good salesman will talk the customer out of it real quick. The customer will quickly learn they are wasting their money. It can't be guaranteed and if you have any existing leaks they will still probably leak. So Mr. Customer, let's talk about that complete tear off job then, shall we?

A loss leader is just a way for high pressure salesmen to get their foot int he door and take advantage of the feeble minded price shopper. Before this price shopper knows it they are paying 4x what they had budgeted and their heads are spinning. Had this foolish price shopper actually shopped around they'd know they can probably get a better deal elsewhere when it's all said and done.

Anyone else ever notice that the companies advertising to be the cheapest with the loss leaders are usually the most expensive when you add on all the extras?
