Break rooms of companies that have many employers. If there is a way to get flier on the bulletin board, or news letters.

Pounding the pavement and getting people to put your business-card magnet on their refrigerator is a low cost technique that we use, when slow.

PPC on Google Adwords... At least you'll know what you are paying for.

Re: Where To Advertise? ?

Yelp boasts a 1 to 3 ratio for dollars spent vs. Revenue generated.

Personally this sounds like a horrendous and unsustainable roi but what do I know? Advertising as 30 percent of costs?

Re: Where To Advertise? ?

I've been a PAID member of yelp for 2 effing months now. It's a bold faced lie in my market.

Yes I have the profile fully filled out, yes I have a professional commerxial, yes I have a review, yes I have photos...

Here's the results:
And the worst part is, they lock you in with a $700 early termination fee. Don't believe the numbers the salesman gives you. If your not getting business from your free listing, you definitely won't get it from your paid listing.

Re: Where To Advertise? ?

Your competitiors are probably flagging you on CL.

Look for a CL template and make one, it takes an hour. Then you just copy paste code every morning.

If you do multiple things, siding, roofing, ect, make a few templates.

That's funny when I talked to a yelp idiot they told me they didn't have exact figures and I was like so you just want me to take your word for it?

Well, I figured I've tried home advisor, thumbtack, so why not try. You have to take risks with advertising. Sometimes you lose (Yelp).

Re: Where To Advertise? ?

If you want to get out of yelp and not have to pay the entire $700.00 you need to call up and reduce your monthly spend to $300.00 and that should reduce your penalty down to whatever you were spending the previous month. Of course this means you'll have to stick with them a little longer. Yelp advertising can work but the problem is that you have to already have a bunch of solid reviews before you start or you're just wasting money. I have a garage door company www.aladdindoorsaustin.com and I pay $300.00 a month and I've gotten several leads from them this month. I have around 17 reviews and I would probably get more but I also think I need more reviews. Several of my competitors have over 200. Just my own experience thus far (4 months in).

Re: Where To Advertise? ?

How about a local newspaper. Some old timers still look there for services.
You can get a 4 line ad here for 30 days for about 250 bucks.
I've have seen a few electricians advertise there for the last 20 years with good success. (I know because I use them )

Re: Where To Advertise? ?

I have a budget of $330/month on yelp. $150 pase, then x per lead not to exceed $350 total. So as you can see, I am not spending much.

I just wanted t9 show that what works in 1 market doesn't apply to all.

Re: Where To Advertise? ?

I believe the best way to go is not to only depend on one site like yelp or craigslist. I believe that putting as many lines out as possible will dramatically improve your results. Free or paid, this is an investment and if you want a successful business, you'll want to prioritize that. My opinion.

Re: Where To Advertise? ?

If you spent 200 a month on a facebook ad that went to a professionally done landing page you would have tons of leads from it.

Re: Where To Advertise? ?

I have a Website ($100/year), Google Plus Verified busines page (Free), Facebook page (Free), and just signed up for Home Adviser (I'm not sure how that will pan out).

The best thing is the Google Plus page. I have my service area, contact info, link to website, etc. Google likes it and my page ranks high when people search for a carpenter in my area. An occasional ad on your local FB Trading Post (Free) has intermediate results. Best is good old reputation and word of mouth, and a network of tradesmen who you repeat business with. Next best, paying a college kid to put flyers up in specific neighborhoods.

When I first started I would put flyers on the doors of every house in the neighbor hood I was working in. People would see my truck and come ask me about services.
