Question

What Should I Expect To Pay For A Website?

I've been in construction for 17 years now and in business for myself for 5, however I took the last year and a half off. I just got re licensed and have contacted some of my old accounts but they all claimed to have Nothing, nada, zip! So for the first time ever I may have to advertise.

I'm a commercial contractor but right now I'll take almost anything, even residential! I'm thinking of having a website put up, nothing fancy just a few pages for pictures and whatnot.

Is it better to have your own website or have a page set up through the local yellow pages?
(by better I mean ROI)

YP is OK if you can spend LOTS of money every month in fees, AND clicks. I looked at a YP site the other day. A big fat '0' in SEO. They rely on clicks entirely. Shouldn't cost you more than $10. per click.

You can get a name and a small site anywhere for $30.-$50 a year. Heck, you can get the name from me and use Website Tonight to have a presence, Then, just hang around here and learn SEO to make daily/weekly changes yourself in minutes.

Lots of threads with helpful info here.

Re: What Should I Expect To Pay For A Website?

"I had tried to register Tinner, Tinsmith, Coppersmith, and others back around 1994. Where ever it was, it listed suggestions, and one was 'tinner666', so I took it. Easy for a dumb roofer to remember. ( I didn't realize the possible connotation associated with the 666! I assure you, tinner666 has NO associations with the devil!"- tinner's website -

Whew!

I've seen plenty of contractors proclaim there religion proudly on their trucks and business cards, you know the fish outline (ichthus) and the cross. I thought you might be going the other way.

Re: What Should I Expect To Pay For A Website?

It is MUCH better to have your own web site! It doesn't cost a ton of money and there are some good template suppliers out there who can give you a product where you will maintain control over your content and not have to call a web expert every time you want to change or update something. If you can use MS Word or something similar, you can run your web site with a template package. One of the best ones is by a guy named Terry Troxel. He works only with contractors. He has a brand new page explaining what he offers. You can find it at websitesbycontractors[dot]com. I send customers to him all the time and they seem to be pretty happy.

Hope that helps.

You can get great deals out there, I'm running 20 domains for 70 bucks a month and that "Hosting". = ) The power of the web can be leveraged to your favor.

There is way to much to tell you in this post but the basic are:
1. Pick a domain name. that's www.yourcompanyname.com or whatever.
2. Design a web site.
3. Get a hosting account. I suggest Godaddy because they are perfect for the internet newbie.
4. Publish your web site!

Re: What Should I Expect To Pay For A Website?

There is alot of good free information out there. I recently built my 1st website. Nothing fancy, basic info and pics. I use Godaddy for the domain and Host Gator for my hosting. I purchased a dedicated IP so I pay 12 bucks a month to host. I put a form on the site for people to fill out for a free estimate request. With no real SEO I have already been on 2 estimates from people submitting the online request. My site has been online for 2 weeks. I'd say its definetly a plus. In todays day and age people want to see ight now, a website gets you there.

No, websites are sold by the lineal foot, plus 10% overhead and 10% profit.

If you wanna tackle doing the site yourself with somewhat limiting templates then I suggest Microsoft Office Live.

I got my domain name, site hosting and email accounts free forever. I signed up in the beta stage so I think you just have to pay for your domain now, but still...free is a very good price.

www.ironmanplumbing.com

at the bottom of my home page there is a link to where you can get your own.

You have a link to his portfolio? I'd like to see how good his work is because that is very steep for a 3 page site. Does it include optimization for search engines as well?

Having a nice site is important but it does not have to have all the bells and whistles to be successful. You need traffic and conversions, that's what's important.

No I don't have a link to the porfolio, it was an acquantance that is a professional web designer who supposidly gave us this great discount if we used his services ... guess he was full of it.

We were using Vista Print 3 page website & easy templates, $4-6/month.
