Website Optimization

I am constantly being barraged with emails stating how nice my website is but if i want more traffic I need to optimize my site. (FYI, when I had my website developer create mine he said he optimized it.)

Well, I answered one of the emails I got today and spoke to a guy that says I can be located in the top of the left column (Google & Yahoo) in my market and stay there for the low, low price of $6,000.00 plus an annual Maint. Fee of $1,900.00. Now I'm in St. Louis and this guy calls me from Largo Florida telling me about all these pie in the sky possibilities. Needless to say I'm a bit skeptical and prefer to deal locally as much as possible.

My question to the forum is this:

Has anyone of you dealt with a company (1,500 miles away) in this manner or are there companies out there that you would refer for website optimization?
$8,000.00 bucks seems insane!!!

Thanks Much!!
Dave

There's a few really talented guys on CT that might help. Try using the search function for optimization.

Re: Website Optimization

Man, it is not that I do or don't recommend this guy - i don't know who it is.

But, you DO need SEO (search engine optimization) tuning done to your site.

I did not do a deep analysis, but it seems like the site is almost 3 years old. How many leads do you get from it?

$8000 does seem a little high, but I actually am not familiar with SEO pricing as we did our SEO in house.

However, the amount of time i spent on our SEO and the value it has right now + the future potential is WELL above 20-30k in my opinion (subjective).

Here is the comparison: How much does yellow pages listing cost? I don't mean a 3 line listing or a credit-card size ... i mean 1/4 or even 1/2 page ad? 5 grand... 7 grand? How many people will call you up on that ad?

Bear in mind that it only runs for 1 year. A good SEO will run for years and will only increase the number of leads and once implemented, it is actually free, unless you decide to pay a "maintenance fee". I mean you can maintain it yourself - it takes 2-4 hours per month.

Find a trusted SEO firm and get it done. It will be the best marketing money you can spend (imho).

Good luck.

Cool Flat roof. The only time I really get leads from my site is when I do ppc with google or run an ad. People tell me how nice my site is but it doesn't bring in many leads on its own.

Re: Website Optimization

Dave,
My site brings me about 1 GOOD lead every 2 days. Everything from a 2-3 square flat-roof porch to 100 sq. + commercial / industrial roofs.

If I actually sold them all, I would not possibly be able to do all my jobs, even I had 10 men crew.

The great thing is that I don't have o worry about finding work - work finds us. And I have never done PPC or Yellow pages or News paper ads. Long time ago I did Quality Screw-smith, and was so disappointed that I decided tnot to ever pay for advertising ... It would be impossible without internet, but....

You do NEED a site that brings you customers, and your site has potential because it is 2.5 years old - google likes older sites.

Re: Website Optimization

You can get there in a week, probably for free by:

Joinn Google Webmaster Tools;
Join and set up Google Analytics;
Use Google Site Verifer in Webmast Tools; (Takes about 24 hours to take effect)

http://www.google.com/addurl/?continue=/addurl

Now, just add $500.00 to my PP account and you'll be well on your way.

Find Chuck Norris

A lot of those are scams, if you are so unfindable, how are they finding you?
You need to check out the company independantly, not by info they supply.

That is alot of money. If they are legit make sure they don't use blackhat SEO techniques. (Google it)
If they come back OK it comes down to ROI. How much investment will return how much profit?

Re: Website Optimization

SEO is not done once and for all, because it's a continuous process, not a quantum leap. It's a marathon, not a sprint.

$6000 starter kit is too big of a bite for a small business.

Need more advice?
