There are probably thousands of web hosting companies. I like godaddy.com and networksolutions.com because they have terrific 24/7 customer service. I think godaddy is a little less expensive that network solutions and godaddy's website is easier to navigate.

We use godaddy for domain, WordPress for our website and flywheel to host the WP site.

I'm not wildly tech-savvy, but WordPress and flywheel are very user friendly.

Re: Web Hosting

Like most techy guys, I'm not a fan of GoDaddy for hosting. Bluehost is pretty decent for the most part but the font on their CP is hideous and difficult to read. It's been that way for some time and I'm stumped why people don't complain enough to get it changed.

I would steer you toward Dreamhost but go with the VPS for $15 a month. Shared hosting has been getting increasingly problematic for various reasons. A WordPress site especially will run much faster on VPS. Dreamhost is highly rated and my experience has been good.

What's the specs on the dreamhost VPs at 15$ a month?

I can get a VPs for 5$ a month that will run WordPress no problem

Re: Web Hosting

Im totally content with a shared hostgator business package. Had it for 7+ years. $15/m apprx. With all the sites I've got stuffed on it, it does fine with 50,000+ visitors and all of them running automatic back up scripts, the heaviest among others.

A gig of RAM and 30 GB of storage. I'm quite certain that's not the best deal out there but I've been running this biz since 2002. I've seen many hosting companies go south. That means two things: always be ready to bail and if one plan is $10 a month higher, weigh the risk when you need to generate thousands or tens of thousands a month to stay in business.

If the $5 plan is working well, keep it. I just have a lot of apprehension based on experience. A few bucks a month is not worth agonizing over considering what's at stake. That's not to say a higher priced plan can't go wrong, but company history and reputation at least provide some level of confidence.

@prowork, HostGator is good too based on my experience but $15/mo for shared seems high when VPS has become less expensive lately. I've not checked Gator for VPS rates but I do know Bluehost is pricier and I'm not convinced the value is there for the rates they charge. TO be fair, I've not tried it to see, and partly because of that god awful CP font that I'd rather not have to decipher. I have better things to do.

Re: Web Hosting

For choosing hosting, performance is key. Many of the big companies like Square, GoDaddy and the like have poor response times. You may not notice but Google does. I suggest you get a host where performance is guaranteed. That is what I did with my concrete and asphalt business. It also gives back end support so we can adjust server settings to improve Google results. My marketing guy does all this for me.

Re: Web Hosting

CBS check out Vultr and digital ocean.

Both have been around d for some time I have used both for almost 2 years.

I do agree that ant provider can go under, this is why I always suggest people have proper backups and also just as important make note of how you have configured your setup.

If your using WordPress know what plugins you are running if you have custom scripts know what they are and what they do.

In Motion Hosting was ranked as one of the best hosts for wordpress sites. If you have someone that can manage the site, then wordpress is a pretty nice content management system.

What made them the best? Speed? Price? Ease of wp install? Sever specs?

I have a feeling that in some comparisons it depends on the size of the affiliate program. Not necessarily a problem but you may want to keep it in mind.

Here are a few "recent" reviews for WP hosting.
