Video Testimonials On Your Website

Does anyone use customer video testimonials on their website?

If yes, how effective (or ineffective) has it been?

In other words, is it worth the hassle? We have several customers (some that are very "high profile" in our area that would be willing to do a testimonial for us.

I'm thinking of doing this, and then giving them a restaurant gift certificate for their trouble. Thanks for any replies in advance...

Anyone that could leave a link (with video testimonials) to their site would also be appreciated.

This seems like a good idea, if you can talk the customer into it. Then I would upload to You Tube, and stream it to your website.

Re: Video Testimonials On Your Website

I don't like using youtube for something like hosting a video file.
At the end of the video some other media that is on youtube site will show up within screen and user has chance to leave your site to go explore on youtube.com
You can easily stream video using embedded window media player in html coding. With this method you can control things like the size, what controls are shown, whether or not you want it to start automatically on screen load. The last is my favorite option, because I don't want the video to start automatically. Sometimes media like that is a nuissance, dending on what sort of information the user is looking for within your website.

Matt,

Thanks for the post & I agree with you. On my entire site there isn't any links that takes the viewer away from it. Even our BBB report link just opens in a new window only.

I think video is a powerful media for web design though.
In a world where content is king, it does deliver great viewing pleasure.
People rather be talked to than read a spiel on something.

I agree with you, but sometimes bandwidth can be an issue. On my site i have over 1000 uniques a month, and if they all see a video of 10 megs, that adds up to 10gb in bandwidth... My limit is currently at 3gb :P

That's why i use youtube to show my videos on my site, and you can see an example here with a playlist: http://www.wireaudio.com/services_automation.html

Unless you have a better idea...

If your concern is bandwith, either try and reduce your file sizes without compromizing quality, or,
you could spend the extra $3 or $4 a month and upgrade your hosting plan to take on more bandwith.

Re: Video Testimonials On Your Website

Matt,

I agree with you. I am thinking of doing a "montage" type video (different customers fading in & out) basically bragging about our company.

It's one thing for a prospect to read testimonials (that anyone could have written) verses visually seeing actual customers speak.

I have also heard that google search loves video on sites. Whether that's true or not, I don't know.

I don't know about the search engine thing,

but I can guarantee prospects will take testimonials more to heart when they are spoken right from the horse's mouth rather than something conjured up by the copywrite staff of the business.
