Two French Fries The Perfect Logo

What's this about french fries being a perfect logo? Well read on to find out, or not...

So any ways guys, am writing this post after reading a lot of threads asking for reviews of logo's. My experience from some of the logo's I've seen is that a lot of us do not understand what a logo is and what it should do.

Before I designed my logo I did quit a bit of reading on the subject from authoritative references. I won't go into linking to them because it's easy to find on the net. I will just outlay the basic steps to finding the perfect logo for your company and how it should be used.

Before the Logo you must have a Brand.
Your brand identifies your company to the community you work in, or even the whole world if your an international company.

Your brand needs communicate what you do and how you do it, and at the same time link it's relevance to your client to establish credibility. You would not have a Steam Roller on your logo if you where a painting company. "No Relevance"

Why we need a Brand
  • It differentiates us from others in our field.
  • It makes marketing more efficient.
  • As your brand gains acceptance that trust is translated to the product or service you provide. <---- VERY POWERFUL

Create Your Brand Before The Logo.

You must create your brand before your logo because your logo is the visual image the communicates your brand to people. Therefore its important that if you are to build your own brand, that *you yourself* have a firm grasp of who you are, what you do and how you do it.

First you absolutely must have a Mission Statement for your company. A mission statement is a completely different subject but is a KEY component to finding the perfect logo.

Do the Google on how to create an effective mission statement and learn the concepts and principles on this topic.

Now the next section is based on the presumption that you've created your mission statement.

The Nuts and Bolts of Creating your Brand = )
1. Write down the key benefits, features, characteristics, and services that set you apart from your competition.
2. Identify and Describe your target market.
3. List names that suggest key elements of your mission statement, usually these are words like, reliability, cost-effective, efficient. etc. etc.

4. Make bullet points that reinforce your mission statement.

Now once you have completed these steps you have the elements to create your brand.

Now the LOGO!!!

Many people confuse the brand and logo by thinking the logo is the brand. The logo is a result of the brand and it should visually portray the values and goals of your company, which are found in your brand.

Your logo should instantly identify your brand with a product or service that YOU offer.

Perfect example of how powerful a logo is.

I need only say, "Golden Arches" and immediately you most likely saw in your eyes mind McDonald's Arches. Golden Arches = food = Hamburgers! McDonald's however is sending another signal with it's golden arches, have you ever noticed that the arches look like two french fries? This is not by accident. = )

I hope this helps some who read this.

Cheers!

Very informative. Generally, how much would you spend to have this created by a professional?

I used getafreelance.com and paid $500 dollars for the logo design and delivery in formats that can be used on the web and print media, and the editable psd's.

Ridgewalker,

After going through your website I happened to notice you had a couple PDF's from Haag and good old Jim Koontz. Have you ever had the opportunityt to meet with Tim Marshall, Jim Koontz, Richard Herzog, Vickie Crenshaw, David Teasdale, Scott Morrisson or any in the bunch. I myself, had had numerous meetings with all on commercial low slopes. I jokingly refer to Tim as 'No Hail' Tim. In Texas, it's almost a guarantee that the ins company is going to throw an engineer at you on any roof over $50K. Used to be $250K before they got stingy. On a serious note, though, most I've dealt with are very professional and pleasant to deal with. When we agree to disagree, we just invoke appraisal, shake hands, bill our time and move forward.

I've heard of them all but I have not had the good fortune of meeting any of them. = )

Thanks! I really took some time thinking about the impression I wanted to communicate when I thought about the logo. On my trucks it looks sweet! I always catch people rubber necking in traffic. You can really see the details in the shields when it's blown up to fit on a vehicle door. = )
