Trucks As Advertising

I like classic cars and trucks and am thinking about putting some restored 1947-1953 GMC trucks and pickups with modern running gear on the road for my business as an advertising tool. I can restore one for about 1/3 the price of a new pickup.

opinions???

This is NOT a new Idea, but one that has proven to be PRICELESS for a few innovative Companies!

I think that's a great idea.

A company in my area used to run all El Caminos for their window and siding business. It really made them get noticed.

Although they don't still maintain a fleet of El Caminos they are still one of the top window/siding/roofing contractors in the area.

Re: Trucks As Advertising

I want to know how you think you can "restore" those old things for less than a new truck"....unless by restore you mean knock a little rust off and run it by maaco for a quick paint job. I've restored several old cars and spent WAY more money on them than the cost of a new car. Of course I was going for car show quality and you are looking for a work truck.....but I think you may be in over your head on that.

That being said....I think it is a great idea. It is sure to get you noticed.

I was able to do a full frame off restoration of a 2 ton for around 10k which included a professional paint job and body work by a pro who works out of his garage on the weekends for extra money. I've discovered that the Cummins diesel powered bread trucks can be purchased with low miles for very little which would provide the donor vehicle. Had I known about the bread trucks before I could have significantly reduced the price.

Re: Trucks As Advertising

I have a hard time buying into that. My '68 camaro convertible had over $45K into it when we finished the restoration. The paint alone was over $6K and that was with me doing the new quarters myself. I'm not saying it CAN'T be done.....just what does it look like. Like I said...I was building a show car....you are doing a work truck....lots of difference there. I had close to $10K in motor and trans!!!!! I think its a great idea and if you can do it economically....it is sure to get you some attention.

I THINK that was DKillinger (sp?)...not 100% sure about that. I agree that his truck looks great....whoever it belongs to.

Re: Trucks As Advertising

and when you put your ad on the car make it clear, large print. and make the phone # large and easy to read. plus make sure the name of your company says what you do.

for example.... don't say: Joes custom Company

say Joes Flooring Company
hardwoods, laminates, carpet

so when people see it quickly they know what you do and can get your phone #

Re: Trucks As Advertising

We had an older 10' trailer we were not using and had an advertising WRAP placed on it ....now we leave in home dumpsters parking lot for a few days and boooom , the phone rings off the hook.

Mostly for..." can you come and fix what we had tried to do."
