Thumbtack.com

About a month and half a ago I setup a free ad on Thumbtack.com and today it paid off. I received an email from the site from a person looking for some heater repair work to be done. I promptly emailed him back asking him to call me and within 5 min. he called and told me what he needed fixed. Met with him today and fixed his problem.

FREE ad which has paid for itself!

The customer told me that he would add my company name to the preferred vendor listing on his community associations web site. Hopefully I will get even more work. You have to love free advertising that pays off!

Re: Thumbtack.com

One day I was searching around for free advertising and found this site. Since it was free I said what the heck why not. I would say it's like a FREE version of Angies list.

Re: Thumbtack.com

It is a pretty neat site, you can autopost to Craigslist pretty easy. When a customer uses Thumbtack to contact you, there is an box checked that says "email other professionals".
It looks like it may go the route of LGS's! To the OP, did you have to pay for the lead?

I paid nothing. The lead came in as an email. It's FREE!

Re: Thumbtack.com

@PS0303, congrats and good luck

If it is free and looks clean, why not?

I would only try to avoid these free ad sites that make money on Google ads and do not care of who is posting or what since they need ANY traffic, so your ad's content is hard to see in the mess, and upon that your ad is squeezed between scams like "WIN THE LOTTERY tips!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" and "ENLARGE YOUR (WHATEVER)!!!!!!!!"

Many circus sites like that out there...

BTW Nice new logo, saw it on FB

I did not do the craigslist post yet but, I was surprised to hear someone got some business from one of these sites. congrats, another good site that gets you on some search engines in manta.

Re: Thumbtack.com

I signed up about a month ago and so far I have received 5 leads from it. Take the extra time to fill your profile out completely and pay the $5 for the background check. You get points for everything that is filled out. The more points you have, the higher you are placed on their site. Good luck!

Re: Thumbtack.com

Darren Slaughter did a write-up on Thumbtack awhile back. I certainly do not like them for their deceiving ways. But if you paid nothing and got lead-conversion, Great! maybe they are actually improving.? I mainly do not like them because they do not allow any type of conversion to your website at all. And their search feature is hideous.

I just placed an ad with them, it put a link to my webpage right on the front of my advertisement. Maybe they did improve, I think it looks neat and well put together.

Has anyone used their request for bids? I got an email notification for a bid request, the request hasn't been posted for very long and there have already been two bids submitted for it. To submit a bid, thumbtack.com wants either $4 or an 8% commission fee (only if you are hired). I don't mind the $4, but I'm not sure if it's worth the time if he is getting tons of offers for a bid already.

My town is Issaquah, not exactly Seattle.

Re: Thumbtack.com

Nice job. We have gotten a few jobs from Thumbtack as well. They also send us leads and charge $4 for them. I have now paid for 3 of them, none of them have led to work yet. But $4 isn't bad. I did show up to one of them to give a lady an estimate at 8:00 on a Saturday, only to find out that their were 6 other flooring guys their at the same time to bid the job. I think that was however the customers problem, not thumbtacks.

Re: Thumbtack.com

Here is a link to sign up for those that are interested: Thumbtack

I signed up a couple weeks ago. My perspective is not so much about getting leads but merely another place for Google to find my website. Can't hurt for SEO.
