Thanks For The Marketing Suggestions...

Back in October( I think) I posted questions regarding flyers and what tools you pros recommended for generating consistent leads. You responded by saying a website was your #1 source next to referrals.

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the great advice.

My website is up and running as of May and is making progress. I'm averaging about 1-2 leads a week and completed my 1st job as a direct result of my site in Aug. I wanted to take the time to update everyone on the results of your advice given and how I'm doing.

Again thanks so much for your suggestions, you all are the greatest

Re: Thanks For The Marketing Suggestions...

I looked at one page

http://www.timeforremodeling.com/kit...emodeling.html

Obviously whomever created your sight designed it's primary purpose as being optimized for search engine optimzation, cause it's a nightmare and a mess in my opinion from the stand point of a potential customer actually using it. I wouldn't even know where to start if I landed on that page.

It's a catch 22 of course, a perfect user friendly site that has no users is as useless as a site that gets traffic but nobody sticks around long enough to use it.

For the trade off of how unfriendly that design is I hope it ends up generating large amounts of traffic.

If it was me I might consider having a 2nd sight created that you use on your direct type in visitors such as those generated by your business cards and any advertising you use. Those visitors are directed to your site by the domain name and optimization isn't a concern.

Re: Thanks For The Marketing Suggestions...

I disagree. I thought my new site was a diaster to. It has so much stuff on it. The old one was simple and did a good job.

The average time on my old site was 45-60 seconds. The new one is 2-3 minutes with a better conversion rate than the old one.

I think people are looking for more and more information. The more you provide for them on one site the chances are they may not go anywhere else.

They will take the time and read through and research your site if they are serious and really want the info. If not you have lost nothing

The hard part is between optimization, info and just getting carried away and cluttering it up.

Not necessarily. Perhaps I'm not explaining myself correctly.

In my company our website is our most productive marketing tool that we have. Not as a source of leads, but as a salesman. Most people are sold on our company when they view our website. I get direct quotations from customers in regards to features they want that are lifted word from word off our website or with many customers I meet with they have pages printed from our website on their table when I show up.

This is an example of the power of your website being the greatest brochure or salesman for your company.

The other purpose of your website for a lot of us is to acutally generate the lead itself. This is done by search on the internet or click through from PPC or other related websites.

The two purposes are completely different and if one is stopping the other from happening, then having two websites is not necessarily counter productive.

If one works as a lead generator and the other works as your brochure that is actually highly effective. Call one a lead generator and the other brochure ware.

A brochureware website you direct people to directly, it's like making them an appointment with your best sales device before the actual sales meeting. That's done by using the brochureware website in all your print advertising, and letting the lead generating website do it's thing which is generate traffic and leads. This is also where the domain name comes into play. A lead generating website can basically have a totally illegible and hard to remember domain name since nobody is typing it in directly. Your brochureware website needs a simple and foolproof hard to mispell domain name since it will be given out verbally alot of the time.

As I said, if that was my website I would think about having a second one done, because that website is a mess, an absolute nightmare for a customer to use, but it might be great at generating search engine traffic. If that is the case it is helping you in one area (generating traffic) but hurting you in another (when everybody clicks back out), and it's doing nothing for you, but probably hurting you if you send people there directly because I can't imagine anybody finding anything of value there with the way it is put together right now.

I agree with Mike.

I'm sure it's very well optimized. But tell me, what's your bounce rate? I'd be surprised if it wasn't somewhere north of 60%

There's a lot of content there, but I don't see very much WIFM.

This is my 2 cents--I'm not trying to tear you down. You're better than half the contractors out there by just having a site...and probably better than half of the rest who do by the traffic you can generate. Connecting with your visitor is probably where I'd say you are weak.

Headlines... Nothing really stands out to me. My eye doesn't land on anything--it all just blends together. Reverse type is harder to read and definitely harder to skim for the information you're interested in.

Photos... There are next to none. And be honest--are those your pics or stock?

Personal connection... To me I see nothing personal in your site that tells me who you are. And no benefits...it's nothing but features....
