Telemarketing
Is anybody outsourcing to telemarketing companies? It doesn't seem to be cost effective to do it yourself anymore with the "do not call lists", however I've had a few telemarketing companies make some impressive claims...Just wondering if anyone else has had experience in this.

Re: Telemarketing
No, I have not done any telemarketing. Will they give you a trial period or guarantee?

Re: Telemarketing
Basically, they will give a free trial of their services, but they require you to purchase a list...They do offer guarantees with some of their pricier programs.

Re: Telemarketing
I've been in the home improvement business for many years like most of you,...Initially, started out telemarketing to generate our own in house leads...at one time, we had 14 telemarketers all on a predicitve dialer, and on average we'd generate anywhere's between 20-30 fresh/ new leads on a daily basis.
The do not call policy came into effect, and sure--did it hurt us? Absoultely. But, just like the times changing, you have to change with them. Last year, we went into agreement with a company out of West Bridgewater, Mass. to handle telemarketing for us. As any venture presents itself to us, I tend to be very cautious. They pitched us on "the perfect lead" program...Something like $2,700.00, and they'd guarantee us 25 "demo's"...25 "pitchable situations." Sounded great, but to be honest, I'm still walking funny from getting screwed over a year ago. The appointments started to trickle in,...and when I'd call to confirm the appointment a day ahead, I was lucky to get someone that spoke English,..Either that, or the person I supposedly had an appointment with was in fact a renter, etc... I called the company (who since our agreement with them has changed their names 8 times) and as soon as i started dealing with our account rep. it was obvious she didn't have my companies' best interest at heart. Needless to say, it by far has been the worst experience I've dealt with in regards to trying to work with someone who fails to deliver as promised. Again, this is only an experience I went through, but if i can do my part to steer anyone away from an experience like this, I'll do my best to help. **the company's library of names consist of "superior telemarketing",...touch call solutions,.....america's best telemarketing,....above the rest telemarketing,....and the name of them when I did business with them was advantel. In fact, a great website to search would be "ripoffreport.com"....In the search bar, type in advantel and you'll see at least 25 other companies with registered complaints against them, and all of them have literally gone through exactly what I have. --You'd think there should be some recourse. |

Re: Telemarketing
Telemarketing is a hot subject in the UK right now - a lot of construction professionals I work with do a very bad job at it!
Marketing for construction these days is much more about building relationships - telemarketing can kick start this process, but there are right and wrong ways! I don't think outsourcing is necessary - if you have 1 or 2 people who will take the time to get on the phone, this can be very effective - start with your client base. Here are a few tips I use: 1. Keep a positive attitude 2. Spend more time listening than speaking 3. Stand up when you want the conversation to end! 4. Smile! 5. Always be polite 6. Never address someone by their first name unless you know them 7. Always keep accurate records of every conversation 8. Know your company's USP (Unique selling point) before you get on the phone There are loads of other things .... Steve |
