Suggestions For My Networking Group Presentation?
Sorta off topic but the purpose is to get more business out of it. It should be a marketing strategy.
I put a post up earlier about how excited I was to join a BNI group (Business Network International). Everything has been going smooth, had one small repair come out of it so far but I think it will take a little bit for the other members of my group to get confortable with me. Every meeting we all have to do a 60 second presentation about out company and the services we provide. Well, next week, I have to do my 10 minute presentation for the first time and I'm looking to do some sort of demonstration for a larger part of it. Just standing up talking is not my best skill, but I could handle it. I want to do some sort of quick demo on a construction related topic, hopefully remodeling. I'm thinking about my sixth grade science projects, but on a professional level, something fun. You guys seem to be creative with thoughts and comments and I value your knowledge, wittyness, and humor. Throw some Ideas at me about what you might do for a 10 minute presentation to get people interested and involved with what we do on a daily basis. I could make some props if I wanted, before then of course. Educational is good and adding humor in there will rock the house, or hotel.Let's hear it!

Re: Suggestions For My Networking Group Presentation?
I'm a member of the local BNI chapter here in my area and like you standing up in front of a group speaking is just not my strength. I've never tried a demonstration; but what works very well for me is a power-point presentation. Typically I will take one of our remodeling projects and walk them through the various stages. Then at the end I will have a bunch of before and after photos to run through in case I finish early. Works well and is pretty easy even for someone who's not good in front of groups.
BTW: keep at it. when I first joined it took a while for people to get to know me and start referring me. The first 6 months I got almost no referrals; but in the past 12 months I have closed almost $200k in business from BNI. .

Never heard of BNI, but it deserves a look into. beachremodlr, by this time you've probably already given your presentation. What'd you do it on? How did it go? Why isn't their more response to this thread? |

Re: Suggestions For My Networking Group Presentation?
I went to a meeting of a local BNI chapter a couple of weeks ago and was quite impressed. Unfortunately, they already had a member that was a low-voltage electrician, but there are other chapters I could join. There is so much business to be gained out there through this channel...especially for us contractors. At one point everyone got a turn to say how this chapter could be improved or what kind of members are needed. My mouth started watering when most people suggested 'we need contractors- painters, carpenters, masons, etc.' These are professionals themselves- realtors, accountants, insurance agents who are out there advertising and referring jobs for YOU. I think the fees to join cost $400, but it's money well spent for all the income that it can generate for you. Only tough thing would be making the Thursday meetings. I'd have to take off the whole Thursday morning, but once again, worth it. I'm gonna join after I'm done with a current project I'm on.
