Successful Websites

For those of you who are getting leads off your website. Would you mind providing your website addresses so that those of us who would like to assault this form of marketing can get a better understanding of the layout. I understand much of it has to do with keywords. But it would be nice to be see some existing websites that have already proven to be successful.

Thanks

www.jarosbros.com

I just started mine up with help from a friend. I still need to add a bunch more pictures. In the past I have relied upon word of mouth and rarely ever taken pictures of my work....bad idea. Everyone seems to rely more and more on the internet and so I have to cater to that. I'm still working on increasing hits with Google.

There is something wrong on your site. Your slideshow covers your page links.

Yes I noticed that when I open in in a reduced size. When I refresh it is okay but I will have to get that fixed.

Yes. Footbridge media takes care of our site and I'm very pleased with the SEO.

I would think harder about how you define "successful" before taking anyone's site as the formula to follow. I would consider the following:

1 High page rank on the majors: Google, Yahoo, MSN

2 High directory listing in Google Local

3 Low bounce rate--You can get traffic all day from high rankings but are they staying to view your content?

4 Lead generation--This is where the rubber meets the road. How many leads are you getting and at what cost per lead.

5 High conversion rate--What percentage of those leads can you convert? This is a complex sales question, certainly. But as it relates to your site, are you generating traffic from qualified prospects? How does your conversion rate for these leads compare to leads you get from other sources?

Numbers 1 and 2 are not that hard to hit with a little study. (If you're doing the SEO yourself it will certainly take longer.)

Number 3 is an often under-discussed issue when it comes to web effectiveness. And it's also a stat you'll have a hard time pinning down for someone else's site. However, it's critical you get a handle on this if you're going to be doing any pay-per-click promotions--Google Adwords, etc.

Doing well at numbers 4 and 5 for a business like yours is the ultimate goal, and should be attacked in a number of different ways: direct inquiries for jobs, requests for free information, enewlsetter sign-ups, multi-step autoresponders, etc. etc.

The average web designer can get traffic to your site and make things look half-way decent. But the majority have very little knowledge when it comes to actual marketing and selling. A design group serving a specific industry will likely have a better handle on this and might be a good place to start, if you don't have the time to research and build the site yourself.

When you find a site you think looks good, give some thought to the above, and ask the hard questions before you follow their template.

Am I saying my own site is excellent at all 4--no, definitely it's not:

I rank number 1 or 2 for the major keywords I target--I would rate my performance here excellent and it does generate a lot of organic traffic.

In Google Local I'm on the second page--which is average to poor. I've filled my index listing with content, photos, a video, and coupon--but have yet to get any reviews up, which is likely why I don't rate higher.

My bounce rate is around 46%, not terribly bad--but not excellent either. Remember, if people don't stay around to view your content--it's not likely they'll contact you.

As for referrals and inquiries I usually get around 5 or so a month. For a volume market like yours this would suck. My own market is for high-end remodeling projects that can have budgets in the hundreds of thousands. I don't have to convert very many of those to stay busy--which is another reason I don't do PPC campaigns. I stay very busy from organic traffic and referrals from other sources.

If I were you--I'd look at your major competitors, especially the bigger groups, and see what they're doing. Do searches for similar contractors in your area and see who comes up and why.

My 2 cents.

Re: Successful Websites

Dittos to what Chris states - would my site work in a large market? Probably not as well, I am in a small market & most of my competitors can't even spell PC or website so I basically occupy the top spots on my keywords.

People around here are slowly but surely getting on the web more - about 60% of my calls are coming from those that found me on the web or checked out the website after seeing it listed in some other form of advertising. I get very few people that fill out the form, as they rather call direct.

Re: Successful Websites

META tags used to be the holy grail of SEO, but these days they're just one more element to be tweaked.

Try this:

It's a very useful tool to analyze your META tags and keyword content.

I've been on the web since 2001, have used a couple different companys for my site, leads have always been slow , in no way my biggest source of leads.

I have not done adwords on my own.

People in my small Texas town are about 10 years from using the web as a resource for finding a local contractor.
