Stymied By Google Local

As per the advice of a recent posting here I fleshed out my Google Local information. I kept an eye on my rankings under a couple of keywords.

Within a few weeks I had risen to position 10 for "kitchen remodeling lancaster pa" and remain there so far.

I got up to position 13 for "bathroom remodeling lancaster pa" and remained there for a few weeks.

Today I checked for bathroom remodeling and my listing was gone. I went back over 600 positions to no avail, it has disappeared.

Any ideas?

Re: Stymied By Google Local

It's a fickle world.

I went to google local day before yesterday to rate the good man that built the back end of my website for me. I gave him a stellar rating of 5 stars and clicked OK.... And the thing took me to my account and had his account listed as an account of mine and that I had edited it so I had to renew my account. Yes I know it sounds crazy, but it happened. I went down from Number 1 to not being found in a flash. Did something similar to this happen with you?

Just today I'm listed now but at 126. I hope I get back up soon

My web designer added a video to his and he went to number 4 from so far down the pack of over 5000 that we couldn't even find him this just happened in the last two weeks so don't lose hope.

I do know this though. When you get it where you want it don't fool with it. I'm never going to give a google rating to another company again. At least not while I'm actually signed into google. No matter which local account you're even looking at, it thinks you own the thing.

Or it did me anyway.

Let us know how you do over the short hall, I'll check back on this thread

This google local will be big one day, and I am particularly interested in it. On a last note, is your title keyword rich? Your title is the first bit of text that the search sees.

Re: Stymied By Google Local

Orson.. I just googled your "kitchen remodeling lancaster pa" and see why you're 10th.

You have your name in the place of where your Keywords should be.. What I see looks like this... Ruby Construction LLC - www.rubycon.us -(phone number) - 1review.

Go make it look like this here... Kitchen Remodeling Lancaster PA Ruby Const - www.rubycon.us -(phone number) - 1review.

You'll be at number 1 as soon as google indexes it again. That's the keyword rich title I was reffering to in the upper post that I've changed.

You don't really even need the lancaster pa in there. Google local goes off of your zip code. Let us know how it goes!

Re: Stymied By Google Local

Thanx for the advice!!!!

To update: my listing reappeared in position 13 when I checked it today...go figure.

Edit: Ok, now I'm confused, I dont' see how to make it look like what you are saying. It automaticaly puts the name of my business there. Are you saying that you enter keywords into the form where it says to enter your business name?

Yes Orson! That's what you do! Look at the ones coming in higher than you. They have the words kitchen and remodel hilited... The search engine is seeing that!

I've given it some thought and this is the best string for you.

In the name of your company field put this "Kitchen Remodeling Ruby Construction"

Your ad will look like this.

Kitchen Remodeling Ruby Construction - www.rubycon.us - (717) 898-2425

You'll go to number 1

Owen

When you type in Basement remodeling Washington DC

I pop up in google local as

Basement remodeling R&B's Remodeling
address
phone number

I put Basement remodeling before my name in the business description area of google local

Re: Stymied By Google Local

Hint two

After My google organic listing raises up to the first page.

I go back and re edit the local listing to a new keyword

Kitchen remodeling R&B's Remodeling Inc etc

And repeat the process for 3-4 keywords It takes me about 4-6 months to see major moments from the local listings on my organic listings. Some keywords work and some don't

Kitchen remodeling
bathroom remodeling
Basement remodeling
Remodeling Contractor

Google ranks your site in two ways in my opinion based on content and Popularity.

After you get a certain amount of interest or clicks regardless if its local or organic listing your site will rise in page rankings.

I have the most popular remodeling website in DC and it wasn't because of content. Its because of clicks/popularity

I understand you can put video and coupons next to your listings now and this helps your ranking?

In a big way! Anything that helps you get that number 1 spot. I got a guy called day before yesterday wanting an estimate on his interior.

I price his job up did my preso, showed him the price, and he whips out the coupon from my google local ad

He bought on the first visit

Did he have other prices? I have no idea, I never ask about other company's when I'm with a customer.

Not sure about the videos and coupons. But I know pictures do. I get 10-15 hits a weeks from my pictures being referenced in google local searches and 5 of those turn in to calls.

I am sure coupons and videos would have the same effect

I get good rankings from Google, but it's really just dumb luck & it changes continuously. Businesses would pay a fortune to know the details of google's inner workings.

I probably will early next year. I am trying to do a tie-in with the showroom I am working on. I am going to have a commercial built to run on the local stations that I will embed in Google local, on my website, you tube and a few other key places.

I never realized how much work, time and energy this stuff takes. I thought my showroom would be open in 3 months

Hey, I just said that to someone about my traveling showroom about an hour ago.
