I'd be interested in booking it just to do a bad enough job to not get paid.

UPDATE: OK, after 3 free ballpark quotes you have to buy "credits" which are valued at $8 per credit and as stated before, live client meetings cost 1-4 credits depending on job. I bought the package of 10 credits for $70 which is a dollar per credit off the regular price. Worth a shot i figure as i think smart phones, which this company specializes in, are going to be the future in residential skilled trade jobs. Matter of fact, I had my website reconfigured just because of cell phones, wanted it to be "mobile friendly".

STAY AWAY!

I signed up with them a few years ago (Friendstrusted).
Never got anything substantial from them except some $ 100 handyman type repairs.
I don't know if and how many of their "Clients" are real....

Now it seems they turn bad.
Starting last year I got lots of txt spam and phony "hires" from clients I never contacted and vice versa. The credits I had to purchase silently disappeared. I had to fight them to get some refunded.
I smell fraud, embezzlement.
Time for a DA investigation?

They are likely just another Silicon Valley Venture Capital (VC) schedule A;B;C;D funded "skimmer" referral-search-pricing-engine day dreaming engineers "Working in Tech" coders of entitled to all "twenty somethings" that never really worked to date in their life to earn a buck or know what it means.
We got them ad nauseam here in the SF Bay Area.

Apparently a 2 person ("boiler room?") operation.

STAY AWAY!

Interesting. If you get text messages from Smith, you "have 1st priority" - after CL:

Perhaps all lead gen services are this way but I found the leads are typically listed like this: replace kitchen cabinets or replace tile. The lack of information makes it impossible to figure anything. Or the people on their site are ....

Complete waste of time, imo.

You'd be better off knocking on a few house doors around the job you're doing. Or send me your money and I give you some "qualified leads"

Re: Smith Aka Gosmith.com Aka Friend Trusted

Hello, we just started getting emails from gosmith. We are a cleaning company in a semi-rural area. We clean houses, businesses, restaurants, move-outs, post-construction, etc.

I looked at the gosmith website, it is not too explanatory. I called their phone, just a recording, can't even leave a message. Sent an email, waiting for a reply.

We have had some decent leads from thumbtack.com. There, you buy credits, then quoting a job costs a certain number of credits. You get charged if your quote is "viewed". Since cleaning is a high demand sector, we are doing OK with it.

Interesting to read gosmith starts charging you to quote. The site says quoting is free, you only pay for an "appointment". We don't make appointments just to look, these are mostly small ticket jobs and we're too busy.

Anyway I am waiting for a response from humans @ gosmith...

Cheers
Mike

Just a followup, I got a generic spit-out reply from gosmith, did not answer my questions. I am not about to send these people money!

Re: Smith Aka Gosmith.com Aka Friend Trusted

These are such BS.

I was skeptical of this immediately. It never went further than the first email.

Think about it.

-It's free for the person seeking work. (when it's free they don't have to be serious.)
-You have to pay JUST to contact them.
-Absolutely no guarantee they even really want work done.

Lastly, anyone capable of posting online like this knows how to use the internet. Why did they not google said contractor and have them come out??? It's because they don't want to pay for a professional, they wants cheap ass work.

Re: Smith Aka Gosmith.com Aka Friend Trusted

Yes I totally agree.

Craigslist is great, and FREE. Of course you get some scammers and wierdos but also plenty of serious people. I post daily, every day. My posts are clean and professional. We target people who want environmentally friendly products.

Yelp is totally bogus, they are constantly calling me to advertise. You open yourself to nut cases filing bad reviews complaining about you. My buddy with a tire shop had to call the cops on a crazy guy yelling on the sidewalk. The wacko started posting horrible yelp reviews. Plus yelp listings are so often wrong. Try to find someplace while traveling, wait for mobile listings on your phone, a bunch of yelp listings come up on top, and the phone numbers are wrong.

Google adwords has a "call only" campaign advertising to mobile devices. Actually it's a lie, you really pay for clicks just like regular google ads. Occasionally a click results in an real call, but in my experience it's about 85% a waste of money.

As cleaners we got some jobs from care.com, for free. But once they saw we have a website, all of a sudden we are a "business" and it costs $300 per year.

Angies list advertises hugely on tv, I think they are just trying to drive up their stock price. I never heard of anybody using angies list outside of the commercials.

Then there is some company trying to sell me software for cleaning companies. Right.

Bah, humbug to all of them.

Cheers, Mike

I also got a request for a bid and did a reverse lookup on the phone number. it came up as a public park in a nearby city.
I don't think I will be trusting anything from gosmith.com

I've been reading a bit about these lead generation companies and just got an email like the one above. Is this a viable way to make money? Are there places where you can get them for free? (I just got my license in Miami - excuse me for being a bit of a newbie here)

Re: Smith Aka Gosmith.com Aka Friend Trusted

This may long but read Smith.com is straight BS I have had a profile with them for close to a year and never got any leads that followed up on my quotes no responses from any homeowners

So I tell them I demand a refund for 2 credits purchased if no job is brought to me in two weeks.

Next day I get a email saying a homeowner wants to hire me. How convenient right.

So I ask to schedule the appointment and my credits are silently taken. Call the number and the woman who answered the phone was rude and actually asked me "which job"... WHICH JOB after she supposedly hired me. She asked for a little info about my company and told me she would call the homeowner and call me right back 8 hours later I decided to calll her.

A woman with a much softer voice answered and she again acted like she didn't know what I was talking about she asked which job told her. And she said VERY fast "I told you I would call you back" and this chick hung the phone up!

i GOT THIS MESSAGE
Quote:
Fyi, your appointment credit balance is now -2 after applying 3 credits on job# 836217.
I didn't apply any credits lol and why is it 3 credits I don't have any credits, oh yeah they gave me 1. So each leads you talk to is 3 credits. OMG did you look at the price of the credits

FUNNY THING IS THAT JOB "IS ME" I wanted to see how it would work for a real customer. They sent out messages to remodeling companies say I said to call me. "I DIDN'T"
