Sign Promotion

This topic has come up before, but we started our annual sign promotion today. We put signs in the yards of past customers, and enter them into a drawing for a $250 gift certificate to a very nice restaurant ($250 might pay for a meal for 2).

This is our third year, and the number of customers participating has doubled each year. We are focusing on a very small area with this promotion, so we are getting a lot of signs in a small area. The signs will be out the entire month of November.

The interesting thing this year is the buzz that has been created. We've been promoting this in our quarterly newsletter, and when we called customers they were very receptive.

Grumpy has mentioned this idea in the past, but I originally got the idea from Marc Sylvain. Thanks Marc.

Re: Sign Promotion

I rather just call these past customers and simply ask if they, or someone they know, have any projects they'd like to have done. Rather than call and ask to stick a sign in their yard.

If you're trying to market in areas where work was completed, how about direct mail, or even cheaper and more effective door hangers or flyers.

Re: Sign Promotion

A friend of mine is a window and siding guy. He has done work in central pennsylvania for years. He could do this promotion in areas that he wants work.

I am amazed at how simple this idea is and the buzz that would be created.

i am going to share this with him.

By the way, he has spent thousands of dollars on cable and newspaper but the best promotion is the yard sign.

Thank you

Everthing that you said to do is GREAT. But by putting up signs you make yourself look huge. Nothing better than hearing "we see you guys everywhere" from a potential customer. People driving by may not live in the neighborhood and you wouldn't hit them with a doorknob hanger. Other people will remember that they saw you there before and assume that you must be doing more work for the homeowners. They think "wow he must do good work because they called again" The sign campaign works great. It's just different than advertising.

Yup, it's more about creating an image of size and presence, and I like the idea a lot. I've had customers choose me because they saw my sign here or there in town. This would afford one the chance to saturate an area with signs so no matter who goes through, they will see you everywhere.

Re: Sign Promotion

That's a great idea, it brands your company name in some one's mind if they see your sign "every where" relativly speaking.

I've had people sign up with me just becuase they wanted to have our sign in their yard! And that's the facts! Usually its the wife who asked, do get your sign in our yard? Deal closed! hehe

Re: Sign Promotion

Good job pulling this thread back up Lake. What do you charge for 100 coroplast, 2 sided, single color signs, with stakes. Here is a chance to run a promo for CT members.

1 bought my own vinyl machine just to make these signs for myself and to letter my trucks. The machine has paid for itself at least twice so far.

USE yard signs, they work.

Re: Sign Promotion

Do you guys mail a letter to past customers or do you call?

If you mail a letter, what do you tell the H.O. why you are doing this?

How many signs do you get out?/ how big of an area.

James

Re: Sign Promotion

I love the job sign promotion. I use in in a similar way when canvassing, works great.

When mailing a previous customer it is a VERY good idea to call them too.

Re: Sign Promotion

Does anyone still do this? What do you tell your customers? Why your doing it and the opportunity for them to win food gift cert. How do you base the winner. Based on referrals or random draw?

Thanks
