Service Magic Referrals

I have been using Service Magic referral system now for about 6 months. In short, out of all the referrals (probably about 30 or so), I have gotten 1 job. It seems that whenever they send me a referral I call the customers within 5 mins. and either get no answer or they already found someone.
I am really starting to think that it is not worth it.
Has anyone else run into the same thing with the referrals?
Thanks
RB

yes, most people that use them have this issue. Save your money and dump them 1 out of 30 is badd.

Referrals? Is this something new they are doing? I thought all they did was resell the same lead to different 25 contractors.

Service Magic is great if you're in a race for the bottom

You'll get the same crap for free on Craigs list, why pay for it?

Re: Service Magic Referrals

I have used them for 2 years but canceled 6 months ago. They sent me lots of crappy leads. I called the customer right away on most of the leads that they sent me and I always ended up leaving a message without a return call, or the customer already got a contractor. I spent about $4,500 and got 5 jobs, building a second floor addition for $100,000, room remodeling for $32,000, finish basement for $15,000, deck for $7,500 and Shower faucet for $450. Fortunately I got two big jobs within my 1st year with SM and that one job will pay for itself. My 2nd year I did not receive very good leads and I wasted lots of times. Hope this helps

Hmmm, my experiences are just the opposite, we have a 100% closing rate on all SM leads that we have closed.

Re: Service Magic Referrals

WTF!
These guys call me every two days! I guess I was curious about 3 months ago about whether or not I should try contracting again and how to go about it, I saw these guys on the Internet, and called them.

Huge mistake! They call me all the time, the first few times I was trying to be nice, telling them I wasn't active yet, and that i would call them when I was. then I told them that I wasn't interested anymore, now I'm threatening to punch someone if I get another call.

and they called me again yesterday! how do I get them off my back!

Re: Service Magic Referrals

We got a call yesterday from a 1-888-***-***x number. I didn't answer and she left a message stating that she needed siding replaced on her 2150sf house. She said to call her at work only; which was the 1-888 number. I googled that number and found complaints from people saying they had received similar calls from this number and that it was Everycontractor.com...

Seems deceptive and desperate to me... Anyone use them?

When they call me I usually turn the tables on them and tell them how much I feel sorry for them having to work there. They always act suprised or defend SM (probably cause they know they are being recorded by them), then I explain how it must stink to work for a place that is regarded as a sham by the contracting community they prey upon. You can tell how new they are by thier reaction. The hard cases just give up cause they are hearing the same story they hear from others they call and know it's a waste of time talking to you. The newbies act shocked and can't believe it. Especially when you carry on about how the entire contracting community regards SM as a joke and a waste of money.

Re: Service Magic Referrals

After we dumped Service Magic; for poor customer service of all things, they kept calling to get us back. After the third time I demanded a $250 credit to get my business back...they said no.
At least they've stopped calling.

Re: Service Magic Referrals

I was with them 4 years, finally stopped it. Their new scam, bill you for leads with kids putting in their request, comment well maybe their parents will want the job, You don't own the house and might think about what it might cost for a roof, basement job, landscaping? you can't estimate the project because the actual homeowner doesn't want you on their property. But it's a billable lead?

They will tell you it,s a numbers game, I can mail to the new homeowners list myself for 27 cents not fifty dollars a name

They have every trick in the book to bill you. Save your money

Mail all your past clients a news letter, post card etc, be in their faces and maybe you will be in theirs doing a project for their house

Re: Service Magic Referrals

I tried them & a couple others but was a waste of time & energy. I do better with multiple websites & constant listings on craigslist & adoos. These get me 2-5 service calls a day average. Why pay them if I don't have to.

Re: Service Magic Referrals

I found a simple way to get telephone sales persons from everywhere to quit calling.
First say Oh this is my SEX phone call! No matter what they say; then you say" are you naked" & continue to tell them you just love SEX phone calls & they turn you on? They put you on a NO CALL list QUICK! Iti's better to laugh than get mad about some $8.50 per hour telephone sales person that are very bothersome. I like the girls better when they call & the guys stop calling quicker!

That's not bad.

I personally like when I see the mormons getting ready to approach my house. In the matter of mere seconds, I get changed into an adult diaper, and smear chocolate syrup on my fingers and face and wait for the doorbell to ring.

Works wonders.
