Roofing Underlayment Offers

Roofing underlayment

What type of underlayment do you include with a typical roofing job?

Do you also give the homeowner prices for other types of underlayment?

I’m trying to minimize the number of options that I offer in order to streamline the decision making process. I don’t want to give the customer too many options because they’ll get confused.

Thanks,

I use 30# almost exclusively, but occasionally offer synthetics for an upgraded choice. But, thay are inclusive with the shingle grade options available.

3 choices usually with an occassional 4th choice.

Re: Roofing Underlayment Offers

h/o gets to select the shingle color & grade & flashing type,(copper vs .019 alumn) that is enough for them to select and still takes a day or so.. hahaha
The rest is left up to me,

Now, it is rare I do anything on a roof other than call my roofer with another roof job, (once in awhile do repairs, inspections, or misc, but the actual roofing, my time is over for that.

But seriously, unless another roofer has talked to a h/o and tried to offer different selections for paper or valley flashing, I do not recall discussing anything other than shingle color, flashing type and grade shingles. Even the few times a h/o has asked me years ago, because mentioned by another roofer as an option, the h/o stated they trusted in us to use proper materials & what ever is needed below the shingles, they stated they had no idea anything went below the shingles or if they even had options, as long as it looked good and no leaks, that is all they need to know.

specs always state items used such as
drip edge, perimeter bond, 30 # paper, 90# in valleys, cap over ridge vent, all valleys to be weaved, flashing type selected with grade & shingle color, findings of wood decay on roof deck $80.00 per repair

To many options can only complicate the project.

Re: Roofing Underlayment Offers

I've been using 15 lb but I'm thinking about making CT Roofers Select my standard underlayment.

It will add about $4 per square to my cost.

It's required for CT warranty upgrades.
