Referral Reward

I’ve been giving customers a $100 gift card from Outback Steakhouse for a referral reward. If they refer me and I get the job I’ll send them a gift card.

Do you guys have any better ideas for a referral reward?

I’ve been thinking about using a Visa gift card or something like that. It might work better because they could use it any where they want and some people might not like Outback Steakhouse. However these cards cost more than the face value.

I know some contractors will just write a check fro a referral reward but I don’t think I want to go that route.

What works for you?

Re: Referral Reward

If the referral closes and you get the gig, the VISA Gift Card sounds better.

As for paying for a referral, do these Contractors reciprocate???? Do they pay you off when you refer them???

I personally would take them out for a GOOD Dinner once you have completed or finished half of the gig. This is an opportunity to reinforce and build a better, stronger, more familiar relationship with said party/parties. A Dinner is a perfect forum for Network Building.

Re: Referral Reward

My customers like cash on my larger jobs because they are not limited to how they can use it. There is something about giving someone a crisp $100 bill in a thank you card that makes them smile. I think the visa gift card is good also. You can also do a survey and ask your customers what they think.

Re: Referral Reward

How about a 5 gallon can of gas?

I guess that it would have meant more at last summers prices.

First point is from a tax perspective. You can claim $25.00 for a gift. I look around when I'm in their house to see what their interests are, golf, wine drinkers, pets, and then I'll give them a gift (card) that relates to their interest or a bottle of wine with my company label.

Yes remember you can only write off your taxes the twenty five dollars you give your clients and that's once a year.
Example: 100 dollar gift card, tax write off of gift card is 25 dollars. 75 is out your pocket. Second gift card is all out of your pocket.
And really the client would have to report the amount on his or hers taxes.
Of course this is all behind the screen anyway. But you shouldn't be giving away TV's and things with big prices.
