Postcards : Grumpy Or Others

Hey Grumpy I just got a color laser printer (Konica Minolta 2430 $250! at sams club) Anyway I was wondering what paper you used for making postcards? I want a fairly thick card.

Even with that nice printer I question if your going to be able to beat the price of getting someone else to print them for you.

Maybe I'm wrong but the Ink and paper costs could get pricey.

Re: Postcards : Grumpy Or Others

I have a lot of pro printed ones already... I am looking for a more targeted printing. When I do a deck in an area I want to take a pic and make a postcard and send to about 50-100 neighbors. I need a quick turnaround (1-2 days) and small quantity. not usually possible with a pro printer.

For those small targeted areas, I usually print a sample on my printer and then take it to Office max with some 110lb stock and have them do color copies. They turn out excellent. Then I will run the other side through my printer with the targeted specific info and mail-merge them.

Hope that helps.

Looks like somone bought himslef a new tool and is dying to use it

I kind of agree with the others here. It's easier to hand them to a quick printing place. The can turn them around in day and you can save the wear and tear on your printer.

BUT, if you want to damn the torpedoes and use your new tool, I would suggest 4" x 6" photo paper from staples:http://www.staples.ca/ENG/Catalog/ca...affixedcode=WW

I actually use 4x6 blank index cards. My Konika wouldn't print on these, which sucked because it was one of the reasons I bought it. I have an HP laserjet 3600 now. You may have to buy the 8.5x11 perforated post cards if your printer won't take the 4x6 card stock. I see no reason to spend the extra $$ to buy photo paper.

Re: Postcards : Grumpy Or Others

BTW there is really very little wear and tear on color laser printers. Most of these things are built for duty cycles which I can't fill. I wouldn't do a mass mailing with a color ink jet printer, but laser is a whole different story.

Re: Postcards : Grumpy Or Others

Thanks Grumpy, I never even thought of the index cards... I guess I will pick some up as well as some 8.5 X 11 post card sheets just in case.

As far as color copies go... My cost to print (without paper) is less than $.07 and even when paper gets added in its still cheaper than color copies ($.39 - $.84) and with a duty cycle of 35,000 prints a month... I dont think the 100 cards a month will be much of an issue.
