Re: Porch.com,,,,,,,,,They Use Your Business Name And Redirect Your Calls

Well it seems that Lowe's has now gotten into the business more deeper with a massive investment yesterday. It continues to help me promote to contractors that the online web marketing is a huge opportunity since Home Depot purchased Red Beacon and now Lowe's has made a majority investment in Porch.

But there is some information that may be helpful to clarify whenever Porch (or maybe now the Lowe's folk) decide to return here.

Some of my clients and prospects have asked me how the community could have gotten 1.5 Million Contractors to join so fast. My instinct based on earlier publications just last year that 1.5 Million represents data that has been accumulated on contractors - but it is not that 1.5 Million Contractors actually signed up. Here are two stories, basically one year apart, that state 1.5 Million. Maybe just a typo in how the recent story was reported?

Perhaps the Porch or Lowe's folk can clarify sometime whenever they return here, but regardless, all the investment activity clearly helps contractors realize there is a huge online marketing opportunity - and my vote is to focus on your website with pictures, videos and testimonials first since it is obvious there is a huge Consumer to Contractor opportunity.

Never forget, unique content is golden for marketing. Surround your unique content with some SEO (Search Engine Optimization) topics and your business will be found. And if for some reason you wish to load your content elsewhere, please place it on your website first. Everyone is vying for your data so keep that in mind.

Good luck to everyone.

I know sure as shďt I didn't sign up.

If I had, I wouldn't be using a 22-year old address.

Now it appears you must sign in before you can enter the site.

Sign in = give them your address and email.

Re: Porch.com,,,,,,,,,They Use Your Business Name And Redirect Your Calls

I had very similar complaints about porch.com but the one thing that has always worked has been the phone number. It dials me directly and even goes to my voicemail. Now if it would just give me a phone number within my area code it would be nice, otherwise I look like I am based out of Western Kentucky. I just finished writing a review of our experience with porch.com so far.

Re: Porch.com,,,,,,,,,They Use Your Business Name And Redirect Your Calls

Tim,

At first I actually thought you were working for the Lead Generation company so I went to your site to see what your thoughts were.

That was a rather well worded (unfavorable) review and I think any contractor may want to check it out since I can see you have marketing savvy.

You are not a candidate for any Lead Generation service, including the one that you wrote a review about. The main reason is that you know how to articulate well and also have a website. I suggest you take your content writing talents and put it more into your website and surround it with some SEO (Search Engine Optimization) tactics. It is clear as day that you can take any job, add some pictures, hopefully a testimonial and possibly a video, and write the heck out of it for unique content.

I would like to offer only one mistake you did, but please do not take offense to it ... and that is You Signed Up in the first place.

I realize you signed up in order to Test Drive the service, but my instinct is you did not read the Terms & Conditions. The Terms & Conditions are a focal point for me when it comes to how a service views Content and how that content may be used, in any manner seen fit in some cases. I realize you may have gone fast to "just check it out", but now all the information you entered may be used to possibly drive traffic to you, the lead gen company or perhaps another company. That is where the gist of the thread title comes from. Perhaps you may glance at the terms pertaining to content and offer your opinion to what I have been saying on this topic.

Putting my "one mistake" comment aside, that is a good (ahem, not so good) review that contractors may wish to check out. Welcome aboard and thanks for your participation.

Re: Porch.com,,,,,,,,,They Use Your Business Name And Redirect Your Calls

I just looked at the landing page that comes up with my company and can see how a consumer may be misdirected.

So much can be viewed as a negative without any input from me, positive or negative.
It is all how things are worded in order to drive traffic to another contractor who may be paying, I suppose.
For example, it says We Don’t Have Work History or Endorsements or No Neighbor Data, or No Project Data or Unknown Years in business.
That is because we have not signed up, nor intend to, since we do read the Terms and Conditions of these sites and do not want to give up Content Rights with the bait of a Free Sign Up.

There is a Phone Icon just below my company website address, and one may think they are automatically dialing my company number. But what happens is a message comes up with a little more perceived negativity where it says “The Contact Information has not been verified”. The bigger number to the left, which is probably the one read first and probably the one that a mobile phone is ready to dial is a number leading to the Lead Generation company.

My company number is also listed, on the right, and in a smaller font, and I doubt a device would pick it up, and I also think subliminally a person will just quickly dial the first number without reading everything else.

I am sure there are some permutations how this all works, but I do not care since I just focus on my own web presence and my own project reviews and testimonials. If you focus on your own website you will not need to worry about all these marketing schemes.

A phone solicitor contacted me recently. Thanks to this forum. Your input has saved me from drama.

As my wife has said a few times, rarely does a quality product contact you for their business. Usually, it's us going to the business seeking their product. Food for thought.

Re: Porch.com,,,,,,,,,They Use Your Business Name And Redirect Your Calls

I received a call a couple of weeks ago about the review I wrote from a representative of Porch.com. I had just had dental surgery done so I didn't feel like talking. She e-mailed me but has not responded to my return e-mail. I went to Lowes today to grab a few things and now the store has even less endcaps in place and you have to look hard to see any presence. They are still covered by blue buckets.

I am not worried as of yet about my profile and all of the negative things mentioned. They just don't have enough traffic at this time to make much of an impact in my opinion. If they don't have a better way to get traffic than a handful of end caps per store and Google ads, the HomeAdvisor type sites will crush them anyway.

Re: Porch.com,,,,,,,,,They Use Your Business Name And Redirect Your Calls

This company has been trying to contact me as well and I don't want to advertise with them. Lowes has bothered me in the past about being one of their subcontractors and don't have time for that either.

My current customer had Lowes do her kitchen a few years back. She claimed the job took too long (way past their quoted time frame and one of the workers was arrested during the job and sent to jail.

I can't see their site without signing up but for their sake... I'm assuming my information is not jacked to their site.

I replied to an email that their marketer sent me... I guess they're not taking my request seriously.

Re: Porch.com,,,,,,,,,They Use Your Business Name And Redirect Your Calls

I am getting so sick of these lead generation companies. Consumers must be getting sick of them too. We need to tell people the truth about these companies. They are hoping to skim millions of dollars off of consumers looking for an honest and competent contractor. The really crazy part is that the contractors they send are not the premier contractors in a given area. We need use social media to make people understand they are stealing from them and providing the names of anyone that will pay them. If we all post on facebook and tweet on a regular basis we can make their names synonymous with what they are. Crooks! Let's ask on social media what type of luck people are having getting a good contractor with these companies and start stirring the pot.

Got a call from these ********s wednesday. Turns out my website company (footbridge media) setup an account on my behalf. Explained this thread to them, and I want no part of it. Keep the free listing for S.E.O, but don't think of contacting me ever again.

So if you use footbridge media, they will sign you up for a profile at this site.

They spend a lot of money to get leads out there so if you are still getting calls I think its a good service. Online marketing is a crazy biz

My suggestion is for you to tell your marketing firms to be careful (or ask you first) before signing you up to the Free Lists to ensure they are aware of the terms and conditions. Most marketing firms will focus on first trying to get you an inbound link for some random metric analysis, but sometimes it is just not worth your exposure. Keep in mind they are signing you up to agree to terms that you may not agree to if you read them. That is how all this stuff keeps happening over and over again.

I actually got a job thru them, a guy went to lowes and was directed to go to porch, he found my profile that I did not set up and called! Signed the contract yesterday.

I went and corrected my info, and added some projects, I don't know how it will work out, all I know I'm not paying for crap.
