Pay Per Click Stories Good And Bad?
Share with me your thoughts on how Pay per click has worked or not worked for you. Are you still using it to this day.

You're better off optimizing your site for organic search instead of bleeding out a never ending amount of cash for sponsored advertising with Google. Some keywords in my industry are going for $5 a click, and that can be too spendy for small businesses that don't have a big advertising budget to work with. I figure it just depends on how much your keywords are going for. If it's cheap, low competition, then why not go for CPC? But then on the other hand, if it's cheap, low competition, then you could probably just optimize your site and be done with it. Besides which, traffic from page 1 of search engine results is going to trump CPC anyday, isn't it? Will be interesting to see what other input people have on this.

Re: Pay Per Click Stories Good And Bad?
Where I agree with ypu on most of your points, I do disagree with other. Let me explain. The company I work for does not focus on the click, we focus on the back end of it all. The main part which are the connections. When the focus is on the click then the campaign will not perform well, it can't. Clicks cost money and if you are going to pay for a click, then you better get something out of it like a phone call, form fill or an email. Keyword selection is NOT the most important part.

Re: Pay Per Click Stories Good And Bad?
I'm afraid I don't follow you. What do you mean by "the connections"?
Oh and I agree with you completely about the focus on the click leading to poorly performing advertising campaigns. However, unless you're in the business of writing copy for your clients there's really not a whole lot you can do to increase the effectiveness of a CPC advertising campaign is there? Regardless, that's not what you asked for originally. The copy on landing pages = entirely different animal. High SERPs won't help increase business if the site is poorly designed and doesn't sell the product... and neither will paying for a ton of clicks through CPC advertising.

Re: Pay Per Click Stories Good And Bad?
Can you get refunds on clicks? I click on my competitors every time I see theirs. Do they get charged for my clicks? I don't click after click, just occasionally.

I wouldn't use it as an advertising outlet, but I would use it as an income generating source.

Re: Pay Per Click Stories Good And Bad?
No kidding. That's what I do for fun on friday night. Just me, my mouse, and a six pack of beer taking money from my competitors and giving it to google. May be kind of anti robin hoodish but it definately teaches them that they should stick to the phone book if they don't want to lose their shirt.

Re: Pay Per Click Stories Good And Bad?
I wonder about that sometimes. Especially with dynamic IP addresses, I'll bet I pay for quite a bit in worthless clicks. But the cost analysis remains the same: What is my ROI? Still worth it imo, until you can get SEO'd to the front page.

Re: Pay Per Click Stories Good And Bad?
You can but you have to be spending some serious coin. You have to also agree NOT to talk about the topic of "click fraud" as Google will tell you it is less than 1/10th of 1% of all clicks. But, they have shareholders to report to, and unless you use a service to monitor click fraud proving it is almost impossible.

Re: Pay Per Click Stories Good And Bad?
I had a campaign going for about 3 months.
I dumped around $500/month on it. RESULT? Maybe 20 phone calls from "SEO"/Web guys claiming they saw my ad & want to get me 1st page organic. Nice...click on my ad, make me pay $2.00...for the privelege of being spammed/telemarketed. Nice. A few other people selling their services. Probably around 15 inquiries. 0 sold jobs. Just tire kickers kicking tires cuz that's what a tire kickin tire kicker does! Tire kickers...spammers/telemarketers & click fraudsters...Thank you No thank you. $1500...learned my lesson. Can't say I never tried it...you only live once Put my money into SEO, now I'm 1st pg. ORGANIC up in this muhuhugga! |
