Opinion On Facebook, Maybe Instagram

Well, I am finally joining 2005. I want a business facebook page. I know very little about it, but have some folks that are willing to help.

Here is my dilemma:

Almost all of my work is rough and mechanical.
Ex..
I am finishing up installing laundry rooms in apartments where there is none (in 148 units).
I framed, sheetrocked, trimmed and plumbed. The management company paints, installs the actual appliance, etc..

What am I taking pictures of? No one wants to see framing. Nobody cares that I core a beautiful 4" hole in concrete walls. The PVC drain lines are pitched perfectly and well secured... not really picture worthy.

I built bathrooms in 12 basements in townhouses.
Same deal.. Frame, rock, plumb.
Nothing "pretty"

Basically, what the hell do I post?

Who is your market? Home Owners? GC's?

Then who is your sub market? What is that demographic?

Realistically, I'll work for whomever.
BUT
The folks I want to reach with facebook is homeowners.. Preferably Kitchens, Bathrooms, Decks, and such.

GC's and Management companies are easy. Go meet, talk, show, sell.

Homeowners want to point and click.

I've been in business 22 years. I just want to step into current generation before I become a complete dinosaur and can't figure out how to get work anymore.

Yes, but you need to better organize your website since, unfortunately, it is way outdated. Here is an example of something like gutters where the contractor organizes it well regardless of the unique topic details

http://tileandslateroof.com/other-se...opper-gutters/

But the website itself is made for today's current environment while I do not believe yours is. May be time to just start from scratch as opposed to adding piece meal improvements.

True, a 4" hole, is not sexy, nor is dryer venting, or a nice pvc run. What I have tried to do, is take picture of me, or the guys working. Maybe an interaction between the customer and one of us.

My goal is to convey a feeling of trust or comfort. So, I try to focus on the crew, not the product.

You should go with Facebook business page and Instagram. When you get there, connect with other professionals from your area. I think you also need a LinkedIn profile + company page.

Re: Opinion On Facebook, Maybe Instagram

Facebook is getting tough to reach clients, without paying/boosting content.

They have recently changed algorithms for the worse. My wife runs a business off of a facebook "group". She has 10K+ members. Her post visibility has dropped drastically. A couple months ago, a post would easily get 400-500 comments/interactions. Numbers have dropped greatly over the past couple weeks. Her members simply aren't seeing the content.

What philcav7 says about Facebook, he's right. Facebook is changing its algorithm and it is now almost only ''pay to play'' for business pages. But with detailed planning and targeting the right locations and demographic groups these Facebook ads can be very effective. You can always get help on Facebook help pages and learn how to create and run ads but if you want to avoid trial and error method, try connecting with a social media expert.

Re: Opinion On Facebook, Maybe Instagram

Did you guys convert to business on Instagram? First, you need to verify your Instagram account with the Facebook page and then you can advertise on your Instagram and you get all business details shown there. Lately, when we advertise, best results we get from Instragram, bare minimum from the Facebook page. It seems that IG is getting more and more important.

Re: Opinion On Facebook, Maybe Instagram

This is kind of and old thread, but hope my advice works for a lot of people.

As some people have stated the first step is to update your website or get a new one, Wix.com is a wonderful tool for people with 0 knowledge about creating websites.

Now that you have your website update is time for social media.

You say no one is interested in a perfect 4" hole, and there you're wrong, the people how need that work are interest, you don't work with social media to be popular, your with it to reach the adequate people.

10,000 followers are useless if they don't buy, instead 100 compromised fans might make you rich, your target with social media is the people how is looking for your work, not every one.

For the pictures, take pictures of all the process and the final product, in some cases you didn't do the complete work, but you know how to do it, and you can do it like that, just ask for permission.

Back to the website, this is the most important part of your digital marketing strategy, and having a great website and work with the SEO are in my opinion the biggest things you can do for your business, you never search for contractos on Facebook or Instagram, you go to Google, so, you need the be found on Google.

Work and that and you'll see the results.

WIX is a chit show and worthless. I used to band that drum until I got a real site.

Re: Opinion On Facebook, Maybe Instagram

I agree with the above. Wix is bad for SEO. Squarespace is better but any agency you speak to will still balk at it. The ideal choice is hosting your own Wordpress site, that has plugins galore to help get your pages attention. Then it's all about good quality content, long rich descriptions of what you're selling and why yours is the best.

We've noticed the drop off in Facebook too, it's good for a core audience who will share posts but not much beyond that. Photos are getting less attention, and less still for posts linking to your own website. It's most useful for communicating with customers and showing you are active online, to build trust.
