New Pitch From Internet Marketing Co....what's The Catch?

Recieved this advertisement from an internet marketing company:

"Google services for small businesses.

We guarantee placement at the top of the first page of GOOGLE!
  • Unlimited keywords for flat fee. (Yes, UNLIMITED KEYWORDS!)
  • Sponsored Link visibility without pay-per-click price
  • Immediate exposure; less than 5 days
  • Custom Web Page
  • No long term contract. If we don’t perform you don’t pay.
  • We work exclusively. One company per industry per city.
  • Unique placement, not a directory listing.
  • Packages starting as low as $150.00 per month.
Get in touch with people who are actively looking for what you do!"

The "one company per industry per city" thing is what's throwing me, doesn't seem like they could ever have a large enough customer base to justify the "millions of keywords" they claim to be buying. Anyone know how this works?

Re: New Pitch From Internet Marketing Co....what's The Catch?

this is an adwords campaign, so you are paying per click. unlimited keywords sounds great but all it does is spread you real thin on your budget and give you less results. If you buy something like this realize that you are paying a middle man to run your campaign and also realize that they are taking on as many people in your industry that they want because you would never know. Adwords is used by many many many businesses everyday so you will still have comp. Imho they are using people ignorance about the internet to make a buck. Adwords campaigns are easy to run, and i have read a few good posts on ct that explain how to do this very well

Re: New Pitch From Internet Marketing Co....what's The Catch?

my bank gave me $50 credit with google adwords. I set it up to be regional. So when someone googles contractors they have to be in my area (within driving distance) to be able to see me paid link.

It is working out great, I have had ~3 calls since I started less than a month ago and each one of those clicks cost me less than a buck. Nothing has materialized yet but I am making contacts I otherwise would not have made.

I'm familiar with adwords and I've tried Yodel. What I'm stuck on is the "only one industry per city" thing. Is this just an outright lie or do they use some type of rationale to get around it? Don't see how you could "purchase millions of keywords" and "buy them in bulk" and only have one industry per city represented.

Why pay 150 plus bucks a month when a well built website will get you on the first page for a whole lot less? Maybe you need a new web guy.

To rank high on regional search like a town or city is not hard ,what they do is sell one to three towns for 150.00.To rank for large city or state is hard.Very few people search by town or city, run an ad words campaign and you"ll see it wont cost alot because nobody their. To rank for key words that
get searched for takes alot of time or money.I don"t think you could spend 150.00 a year on an ad words regional campaign made up of 12 towns.

Personally I would run from any outfit that is offering a guarantee for top placement.

1. You don't know HOW they are getting the site there. Sometimes they use "black hat" methods that while they might work for a short while they can get your domain "black-listed" with Google. This means Google will ignore your site and it's extremely tough to get taken off their blacklist.

2. They spammed you with their advertisement. (any quality SEO firm doesn't usually do this.) A quality SEO firm doesn't SPAM to generate clients.

Just FYI $150 can buy a lot of traffic with a regionally targeted adwords campaign that is "optimized" with a high click through ratio and relevant landing page. Google rewards their advertisers who are "relevant" with better ad positions and lower cost per click.

I am a Google certified adwords professional and I would be happy to answer any questions related to the adwords system.

It really is a great marketing medium when setup correctly... even semi-correctly

I agree. I did my husbands website for his remodeling business. I feel that I have built an effective website. We have popped up on the first page of google. Meta keywords, alt tags, and meta descriptions really help. I work at an ad agency and have been dabbling in a little web here and there. I have learned many things that have helped us with our site. I use Google Analytics to view progress daily and see what keywords are being used to look for our site. Set it up right it will work for you. Our site has done great. I wish I would have completed it earlier.
