Here is my blog with the details for the $1,500 tax credit and requirements. I will also be posting which window brands qualify and which ones don't. Alot of windows don't qualify for the Tax Credit.

Here is the latest information on the Tax Credit from the IRS
Looks like the IRS is allowing homeowners to use the Manufacturers Certificate to prove the windows qualify rather then NFRC stickers.
I have included a link if you need to read what the IRS is asking for:

The U value on an NFRC sticker is always whole unit.
The only place you will EVER see a center of glass reading is on a maunufactures brochure.

With the new 30 percent tax break, it does help, but not by much, because rt now most homeowners are looking for the smaller jobs or diy. They would rather buy the window from us and put it in themselves..

Re: New 30% Window Installation Tax Credit

Without figuring in the exact numbers, - - it seems to me the 'actual' tax benefit would be closer to 12 -15%, - - as the 'energy package' (30/30)windows will cost more to purchase, - - and that's without any initial mark-up whatsoever.

Now, of course an energy savings over a course of time would have to be factored in, too, - - but let's be real, - - that would take years and years to add up.

Then on top of that you'd have to provide reciepts to the homeowner, as far as I can tell. Wouldn't they be the ones who directly apply for it and would have to provide reciepts??

That would affect you 'mark-up' guys more than it would me, - - but it still seems like it would create an issue for a lot of you.

Feel free to correct me if I'm in (devil's advocate) error here.

Tom it's my understanding that the only receipt the homeowner needs is a breakdown as to what the materials cost them, not you e.g. a 100.00 window costs them 150.00, your invoice to them is their receipt.

Makes more sense, thanks.

Could you or somebody verify that for me (and everyone)??

Anybody got that in writing anywhere??

TIA . . .

Re: New 30% Window Installation Tax Credit

Two years ago I installed some Anderson patio doors for a client, the next spring his accountant was on the phone to me for a materials amount and energy star information. I downloaded the energy star from Anderson, made up a number for the windows and put it in the mail. That was the last I heard from the accountant, just did another job for same client last week
