Need A Permit To Pass Out Door Hangers?

I'm in the Western Pa area and was wondering if anybody knew if you have to have a permit to pass out door hangers or even fliers? If so do you know how much they would cost? Thanks!!

Build's advice is probably right and probably very few people who pass out door hangers get permits, but I know in my city a permit is required.

It's like $140 or something for a year.

Re: Need A Permit To Pass Out Door Hangers?

while we do work all around new england,..each town is different....i've found a great way to handle the whole door hanger issue....we tend to canvass around completed jobs.....with each town we are planning on canvassing,...simply make a photocopy of your id/ license (of whomever will be doing the canvassing)--a photocopy of the registration of the vehicle being used to canvass..and fax those to the local police department where you will be canvassing....simply let them know the address of the job you;ve done, or where and what kind of timeframe you will be canvassing, and again--fax that to the local police dept. of the town you will be canvassing in........

saves alot of headaches.

Re: Need A Permit To Pass Out Door Hangers?

My experience has been that it's best to check with the city hall in the town where you'll be canvassing. In my area, there's usually a fee but it's worth doing it on the up and up. Many of the communities in my area are very fussy about this and if you don't go through the proper channels it could hurt you much more than help you.

My 2¢.

While checking with city hall on any permit issues; be sure to double check any printing requirements. Do you need to have a contractors liscense printed in a certain size or print? You don't want to go throught the expense and make a simple error that could get you in trouble.

Another thing to think about is your message. You only have a second to get a household to look at your advertisement. Especially a door hanger, at least from my own experience. Think about what would grab your attention.

A door hanger can be a great, low cost marketing tool for contractors. The downfall is if it looks like all the others, then it gets tossed like all the others.

This simply means your call back rate will be extremely low, but there are ways to improve your hanger.

For the best result be sure to have some type of compelling message, or be willing to be treated like the pizza boy, maid service, Chinese take-out menu, etc...

I recently posted something at our website about door hangers. You can find out more by visiting my site below.
