Re: MerchantCircle.com

Just another business directory to which you can submit a free listing and "network" (sort of) with other local businesses. You looking for pros/cons in terms of actually advertising on there? Or in general?

Re: MerchantCircle.com

Any input in general and advertising experience using their site.
I was wondering if anyone has tried their service.
This company has 4 advertising packages; the better packages have more aggressive advertising.
I don’t want to try them before getting some feed back.

Re: MerchantCircle.com

Looking over their advertising packages here and here I really cannot see any value there.

You get:
1. "Advertise on Google, Yahoo! & more"
- Basically, they set up a ppc campaign for you with the major search engines
>>Doable by yourself for a cheaper price or you can contract this out through a less expensive third party than MC

2. "List your business on major online, mobile, and in-car navigation directories "
- Basically they list you in the major free online and 411 directories
>>You can do this for free by going to each directory and listing yourself there. There was a thread somewhere from before that listed all of the directories.

3. "Get an instant website for your business at as low as..."
- For a monthly fee, they will build and host a cookie-cutter website that looks like your 4 year old put it together
>> You should either already have a site that you built yourself (not too hard with wordpress, etc) or if you don't, it is best to look at hiring a small company (freelance type of a guy) with whom you can work one-on-one to develop an optimized, nice looking, customized website that will perform well and look good. Not a cookie cutter type of a thing.

4. They also offer ads that run specifically on MC and lastly, they can optimize your MC profile.
>> I really don't see much value in this because the traffic you will get from MC directly will be very little. The search engine traffic volume to your site will probably trump MC volume by orders of magnitude.

The free version works well for me and shows up on page 1 or 2 of Google for my listing.

Re: MerchantCircle.com

the free version works well, the most important point of those sites is to get your costumers to leave feedback on them. I always list my companies on as many of those type of sites as I can usually the free versions and then get as many people as I can to give me a positive review on them. Having no reviews makes your company worthless.

The more reviews the better you are going to do .

Re: MerchantCircle.com

I think they suck.

We do excellent work (sure I might be a little biased) but we strive in making each one of our customers happy in hopes of generating referrals.

One of our competitors somehow took it upon himself to leave an extremely derrogatory statement on merchant circle's website, and until I threatened them with immediate legal action it was up there for all to see.

It's your call, however.

nEighter does have a good idea & there is nothing to say that if someone answered a tough question here or elsewhere, you couldn't give them a review for being knowledgeable, helping you out on an issue, etc...

That definitely does suck! The only thing is, they could just as easily have done that anywhere on the web. I am still holding out judgement on MC.

Re: MerchantCircle.com

I signed up for their free listing
The coupon feature is great, is seen my coupon on a local search, so it might pan out
Something weird happened yesterday though, I down loaded my YouTube video and then it was gone!
A pop up comes on and tells me if I up grade my account I can post it to my account.
Now my video is in their system and I can’t use it or erase it.
I hope these don’t steal my video

Re: MerchantCircle.com

The page rank is high but I don't think it is worth paying for! At least in the Midwest.
You should try the Blue Book, it is well worth the money.

We get 5 solid leads a week!

Re: MerchantCircle.com

I've NEVER got a call from my blue book listing ... and I actually paid for the first 4 years!!
Now I just have the free listing, and it works just as well.

I get calls from my free listings but my office girl always forgets to ask and by the time I get to them they forgot the name of the site...

One person told me about 6 months ago she found me on servicemagic ... I don't belong to servicemagic!

I just said oh, .... ok.

Re: MerchantCircle.com

I created a profile for my business on there just to see what it was all about. I haven't received one lead through them and I asked a few others who said they didn't receive any leads or inquires through them and they were all in different service industries. To me it is just another business directory where it is not "call to action' based to gain leads for people but instead is more worried about profiting with an up-sell to small business owners.

Re: MerchantCircle.com

Just saw an article saying that MerchanCircle has been fined $900,000 for improper telemarketing tactics like lying that the "MerchantCircle website had reviews, ratings, or video footage of the recipient business."

Hopefully, someone will look into BBB's deceptive telemarketing tactics of the same nature. They are so annoying with these calls!
